LCFC Women announce new contracts for First Team stars
Several players confirmed to have departed King Power Stadium
Captain Janice Cayman extends her stay at King Power Stadium following an option activated by the Club, while Janina Leitzig and Missy Goodwin sign new terms on Filbert Way.
Cayman brings a wealth of experience and leadership as Belgium’s all-time appearance record holder with over 150 caps, and as a two-time UEFA Women’s Champions League winner.
Starting XI regulars Leitzig and Goodwin also remain on Filbert Way, having firmly established themselves as fan favourites with 54 and 78 appearances in City colours respectively.
Our defensive unit has been further strengthened with Julie Thibaud signing fresh terms. A reliable performer at both centre-back and full-back, the defender provides valuable versatility across the back line and brings a wealth of experience, having already made 49 appearances in City colours.
Sam Tierney, Hannah Cain, and Shannon O'Brien have also signed new deals, extending their time at King Power Stadium beyond five years. The long-serving trio each played pivotal roles in our journey to the top flight, contributing significantly to our FA Women’s Championship-winning campaign in 2020/21.
Talented LCFC Women Academy graduates Simone Sherwood and Nelly Las commit their futures to the Club on terms that will see their development continue in our senior environment at Belvoir Drive over the coming years.
This summer has seen a number of LCFC Women players depart from the Club following the expiration of their contracts at the end of the 2024/25 Barclays Women’s Super League season.
Among those bidding farewell this summer is long-serving defender Sophie Howard, 31, who departs the Football Club after five years and 122 appearances in City colours.
Joining LCFC Women during a pivotal era of the Club’s history, Sophie played a key role in our FA Women’s Championship title-winning campaign and helped to establish the Club’s standing in the Barclays Women's Super League.
Full-backs CJ Bott, 30 and Courtney Nevin, 23, also leave us following moves from the Norwegian and Swedish top flights in 2022 and 2023 respectively.
Japanese internationals Saori Takarada, 25, and Yuka Momiki, 29, have also moved on to Cerezo Osaka Sakai and Everton respectively, two seasons after their arrivals from Damallsvenskan side Linköpings FC in the summer of 2023.
Elsewhere, Canadian international forward Deanne Rose, 26, has left the Football Club, along with German striker Lena Petermann, 31, who joined Werder Bremen upon the expiry of her contract.
Additionally, 18-year-old Colombian youth international Karla Torres has returned to her parent club, Santa Fe, following the conclusion of her loan spell.
The Club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to all players for their contributions during their time in Leicester and wishes well for their future endeavours.
Negotiations are on-going with a number of First Team players around their futures on Filbert Way as preparations ahead of the new season continue.
