A schedule which has so far seen us defeat both Peterborough United and OH Leuven in beneficial workouts at LCFC Training Ground, now moves into the next phase, with a trio of friendlies lined up in central Europe.
Martí Cifuentes, named as our new Manager on Tuesday, met players and staff the following morning, and it was quickly down to business as he took his first training session alongside Assistant Manager Xavi Calm and First Team Coach Andy King. Enabling the Spaniard to get an initial look at his squad out on the pitches in Seagrave, the session was followed by the group’s swift departure in the afternoon, flying out to Graz airport in southern Austria.
Close to the country’s second largest city, it’s the nearby town of Stegersbach where the Foxes will be based for the next week, located in the district of Güssing, inside the state of Burgenland.
Speaking ahead of the trip, Cifuentes said: “In this stage, you have the opportunity to [get to] know the players a little bit outside of the pitch and to spend a little bit of time with the guys. It’s definitely going to be a very important part of our preparations for the season.”
An eye on Martí Cifuentes’ first day as City Manager, including his opening training session in Seagrave.
With a couple of days to settle into new surroundings, Cifuentes will then lead the team into a match for the first time on Saturday evening, when we face Hungarian top division outfit Zalaegerszegi TE across the border in Hungary. ZTE Arena is the base for that friendly, a 5:30pm BST/6:30pm CET kick-off.
Further double sessions are on the agenda during the second week, which will end with a double-header friendly on Friday 25 July.
It begins with half of the squad playing a 10:30am BST/11:30am CET kick-off against Ukraine Premier League side FC Karpaty Lviv at Sportzentrum Friedberg.
Later in the day, the other half of the squad will take on German Bundesliga team FC Köln at the Merkur Arena in Graz (4pm BST/5pm CET kick-off), enabling a large group of players to gain beneficial pre-season minutes.
We will then head back to the UK for a final friendly of the summer, against Fiorentina at King Power Stadium, with tickets available for the fixture on Sunday 3 August (3pm BST kick-off).
