An own goal from Leanne Cowan was enough to see us start our WSL2 campaign with a win, although Emilia Pelgander’s dismissal inside the final 10 minutes made for a nervy ending.

Believing this only sparked the team to come together and dig deep to see out the win, the Manager wants to see that same fighting spirit when we return to Filbert Way for our first home game of the season…

‘Pleased with the progress’

Talking about the unity within the squad.

Seven of our eight new recruits started matchweek one in Sheffield, with three of the five in defence helping to secure a much-needed clean sheet.

Speaking to the media on Friday afternoon at Belvoir Drive, Passmoor explained how well the new players have been settling into life at Leicester City.

“Over pre-season, I’ve been pleased with the players' progress, and the new ones have come in and wanted to represent this city and this Club,” the Manager stated.

“They all want to learn and do the best they can for this football team. That first game and getting three points was very important for them.

“They’ve worked hard over pre-season, playing some top teams, and it’s shown we can show some resilience and get the results we need.

“We want to make sure that same appetite is in place this weekend so that we keep this momentum going.”

‘We’re not the finished article’

The Manager believes the best is yet to come of the Foxes.

Following our win over the Blades, the Manager mentioned how you could see the early signs of our new philosophy, which is built on resilience and unity, throughout the squad.

Admitting that, with a lot of new players, and some youngsters in the team also, it may take time before everything comes together, he has been happy with what he has seen so far.

“We want to be more possession based, retain the ball well, and when we do lose it, can we have explosiveness in our press to regain the ball and cause the opposition problems?” Passmoor continued.

“This philosophy and new style of play is something we’ve been working hard on over the summer, and it will take time because there are factors that have an effect that we can’t always control.

“The weather, pitch and sometimes how the opponents change in game can result in us needing to adapt.

“We’re not the finished article, but over time, we’ll see that take shape, like we did last weekend in moments, but we need to stick to our principles, and as staff, make sure the players are focused on their job and what they can control.

“They are a good group, that do a lot together outside of the training ground as well, which improves the togetherness and squad mentality.”

‘Give ourselves the right to play’

Bringing that support home this Sunday.

This weekend’s opponents arrive in the East Midlands off the back of a 3-1 defeat to Southampton, but Passmoor urged his side to stay vigilant.

Going on to talk about the strength in this division, and how anyone can beat anybody on their day, he discussed the main strengths he has noticed in his analysis of Durham.

“Week one doesn’t define anybody,” the Manager added. “They have a new manager, and what we’ve seen is that they are a high-energy team that want to dominate physically and have an impact on the game.

“They’ll try to knock us out of shape and change the game up, so we need to make sure we give ourselves the right to play.

“Anyone can lose throughout the season, so making King Power Stadium a fortress and a reliable place for us will be important. We need to make sure it is our home, and other teams struggle coming here, and we’ve seen that having a good home record helps massively with succeeding in this league.

“We’ll need the fans cheering us on, and hopefully we’ll be celebrating another three points, and a first three points at home.”
