We drop down to fourth in the WSL2 standings, with six points from a possible nine, after matchweek three on Filbert Way.

There were three changes from the side that beat Durham last weekend, with Katie Keane back between the sticks, Heather Payne coming in at right-back so that Sarah Mayling could fill in for the injured Sam Tierney, and Alisha Lehmann, who replaced Araya Dennis, getting her first start of the season.

Ipswich lead the break

A first loss for the Foxes this term.

The first half saw City control most of the possession, but unlike against Durham, we failed to create as many goalscoring opportunities. Mayling was once again deployed in central midfield to fill the gap left by Club captain Tierney, who will miss the remainder of the season with an ACL injury.

It was also a first start of the new campaign for Lehmann, who has made two substitute appearances in the previous couple of outings, and looked to be a livewire on the right-hand side.

The deadlock was broken just before the break by the travelling side, when Roe found the far corner past Keane.

Our first defeat of the season

Ipswich took the points on Sunday afternoon.

During the second half, the pattern was the same, with Leicester holding the majority of the ball, but failing to break behind the visitors' defence to open a sight up at goal.

The Tractor Girls continued to look threatening on the break, forcing a brilliant double save from Keane, first of all getting down low to prevent a shot from Princess Ademiluyi, before tipping a header over the bar.

We continued to press towards the end, but a sturdy and resilient Ipswich backline kept the Foxes at bay, to claim their first win of the season, and us, a first defeat, as we drop to fourth in WSL2.

Focus on the Players Cup

We now head into a double matchweek.

Three games in, the season picks up speed now with a busy week ahead for the Foxes, which starts with our first Subway Players Cup match of the campaign on Wednesday night.

Welcoming London City Lionesses to Meadow Lane in our first league stage fixture of the competition, the action kicks off at 7:30pm, with tickets available HERE.

Following that, we head north for our second away game of the season, when we take on Newcastle United at Gateshead International Stadium on Sunday, with a 2pm kick-off. Tickets for which are also available.
