LCFC Women face Durham this Sunday at King Power Stadium

A hard-fought contest, the Foxes came out on top at Bramall Lane to start to the new season in the best way, after an own goal from Leanne Cowan was enough to settle the scoreline.

Tierney’s low ball into the box forced the Blades’ defender to turn it into her own net, but after going down to 10 players in the final few minutes, our captain was proud of how her team-mates continued to fight to preserve the points.

“It’s positive for us and we need to enjoy these moments when they happen, but also [there's] lots to learn from the game,” the midfielder announced.

“Games like this are tough, when you go down to 10 players, you need to stick in together and that’s what we did.

“But we’ll learn from that, and be better in the future, to be able to manage the games in a better way going forward.”

The Blue Army made themselves heard all afternoon in Sheffield and were rewarded with an opening day victory.

Speaking to us in front of the travelling supporters, Tierney hopes that they bring that energy home to King Power Stadium next Sunday when we welcome Durham (3pm BST kick-off).

“It will be nice if they come down because they are nice and loud,” Tierney stated. “They’ve stuck with us through thick and thin but hopefully this year will be positive.

“It’s great to have them here, they are great people and we’ll hopefully see them again next Sunday.”
