Following last weekend's Barclays WSL2 loss to Ipswich Town at King Power Stadium, attention now turns to the League Cup, which starts in its new format this week, with one larger group, combining all the top two division's teams, instead of smaller groups.

We'll have six games, three at home and three away, competing to reach the top eight, who will go on to the knockout stage, and our first test is against London City at Meadow Lane...

Foxes news

City were beaten 1-0 by Ipswich at the weekend.

Our 100 per cent record came to an end last Sunday when a lone goal from Bethan Roe, in the first half, saw the Tractor Girls take all three points on Filbert Way.

Wanting to turn things around and get back to winning ways, we take on the Lionesses, who we beat in two of our three meetings last term.

A fixture potentially providing an opportunity for squad rotation, the long list of injuries within the squad means Rick Passmoor may keep a strong side in a double matchweek which ends with a trip to Newcastle United on Sunday.

Looking at London City

Our first opponents in the Subway Players Cup are London City Lionesses.

London City have also won two and lost one in their opening three games of the WSL season. After beating Manchester United on the opening day, they lost on the road to West Ham United, but a 4-1 success over Charlton Athletic got things back on track for Eder Maestre's side.

The Lionesses have caught the eye of many this season, after a busy summer which has seen two-time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas join from Barcelona.

Of course, with a packed squad of talent, any side that turns up to Meadow Lane this week will provide a tough first test for the Foxes, whose next opponents in the competition are Southampton at the start of November.

Wednesday's venue.

Wednesday's home fixture will take place at Meadow Lane, the home of Notts County, and Fox Travel will not be available. Tickets, priced at £12 for adults and £8 for over-65s and under-22s, under-8s go free, remain available.
