LCFC Women came out on top against London City Lionesses last Sunday
Jutta Rantala scored the only goal in the Subway Women’s League Cup win
The Finnish forward said she is feeling good after 90 minutes at CopperJax Community Stadium
Our top goalscorer from the 23/24 campaign, Rantala, having missed the majority of last season with injury, is back doing what she does best.
A second goal of the season, and a second in the Subway Women’s League Cup, saw us beat London City at the CopperJax Community Stadium at the weekend.
A pivotal win, which sees us top Group D with one game to go, possibly the best news to Leicester ears is that our Finnish forward is feeling good and confident, after getting another full 90 minutes under her belt.
Rantala has four goal involvements in the League Cup this season.
“I think we played really well in the first half and then the second was basically just defending but we did really well today,” Rantala stated. “It was a good three points.
“It’s really important moving on from here, knowing that we can defend well, even though London City had most of the possession in the second half. We were still able to defend in a low block and get the result.
“I feel good. It was good to score again, and I was happy to play 90 minutes, so yes, I feel good.
“We have a long season ahead so it’s good that we can rotate players, and it’s not just the same players playing 90 minutes each week and that’s important for team spirit as well.
Another full game for our No.8 this season.
“We want to win every game we play. We’re in the cup, top of the group so we’re taking it game by game and we want to go all the way to the final if we can.”
Now heading into an international break, Rantala will jet off to Finland to join up with her national team-mates as they chase UEFA Women’s National League qualification.
“I’m really excited,” our goalscorer explained. “I’m always excited to go back home and play for Finland. It’s been a long break since we last played international football so I’m looking forward to it.”
