  • Tottenham Hotspur the victors at King Power Stadium last Sunday
  • Sam Tierney scored our only goal in the WSL fixture
  • Following the game, the midfielder shared her thoughts on the performance
Tierney’s strike moments before half-time at the weekend gave LCFC Women hope, who pushed Spurs all the way but ultimately fell to defeat for the first time at home this season.
Pleased with the team’s fighting effort, our No.3 was frustrated to not get anything from the game.
“We’re disappointed but in the same breath proud,” Tierney stated. “The reason I say disappointed is because we have high standards in this team.

“But Rick [Passmoor] said it at full-time, we are progressing and working hard each week but the way we started was too slow and the goals were too sloppy on our part.
“We’ve come into the game with confidence. We felt unlucky at Chelsea to not get anything after a good performance and then midweek (a League Cup win over Ipswich) was good for us to get people on the scoresheet.
“We do feel confident, and that’s what we strode for in large parts of the game but there are points to reflect on and improve.”
Tallying up 135 appearances for City, Sunday’s goalscorer believes there is an element of freedom for the Foxes whenever they step on the football pitch, as she relishes in that underdog mentality.
“We believe that every team that comes here thinks it will be an easy game, and we want to show them that it’s not,” Tierney clarified. “We’ve got the players to work hard and graft and even today, Spurs had to work hard.
Battling for possession.
Battling for possession.
“It’s about putting on a show for the fans and showing that we’re working hard and moving forward, and that’s part of our game plan.
“Every season I’ve been here, I feel like we’re written off early, but Rick told us before the game to play with freedom. So, we’re happy to go about our business and I’m sure that will result in positive results in the future.
“I was pleased to score, and being able to contribute, but most importantly to help change the tempo; it was important to get that goal before half-time.
“We had other chances, but we needed to be more clinical. It’s always good to score, but getting the result is the most important thing and what we’ll look to do next time out.”
