The Barclays Women's Super League started back up again, following the festive break, and while there were positives to take, Rick Passmoor will be disappointed to have not taken anything in the first outing of 2026, after an unfortunate own goal from Ashleigh Neville was the difference in the scoreline.
There were three changes to the Leicester side that beat London City Lionesses back in December, with Janina Leitzig, Julie Thibaud and Janice Cayman all replaced with Clark, and new signings Sarah Mayling and Ashleigh Neville, who was up against her former employers.
New Foxes make debuts
Neville made the switch to Leicester from Tottenham this week.
All three signings already made this transfer window were straight into the matchday squad for the first game back, with both Mayling and Neville straight into the starting XI to make their debuts.
Deployed at both wing-back positions, it was also an immediate homecoming for Neville, who was well received by the home supporters in north London, and throughout the 90 minutes, showed good quality in a Leicester shirt, despite the deflected own goal.
Deep into the second half, Swedish midfielder Emma Jansson was also given her first outing for her new side, as she looks to establish herself into the English game.
Own goal makes the difference
City failed to find the target for the sixth time this season.
In what, for large parts, was an even game, with chances for both sides, Spurs sealed the points when an in-swinging corner in the first half took the City defence by surprise, before a Neville deflection turned it into the City net.
Leicester came back fighting in the second half, after the introduction of Noémie Mouchon made a difference which led to a handful of chances, coming closest when the French forward drilled a low ball into the box which was turned the wrong side of the post by Shannon O'Brien.
The last pieces of action fell to Spurs, however, almost scoring a second when Bethany England's close range effort was brilliantly turned behind by Clark.
Back to Brisbane Road
The Foxes are back in the capital next week for cup action.
In unusual circumstances, our next fixture sees us head back down the M1 towards Brisbane Road for an Adobe Women's FA Cup clash with Tottenham next Sunday (12pm GMT kick-off).
With another full week of training, and the analytical bonus of playing the same opponent twice, Passmoor and his side will be hoping to make it through the fourth round against WSL opposition.
