It's back-to-back home wins in the Barclays Women's Super League for Amandine Miquel's side, who saw off the advances of Villa with a spirited all-round performance at the weekend. A back and forth game in the opening stages, it was City who had the lead going into the break after Janice Cayman's opener, before she notched a Goal of the Month contender, a superb volley minutes after the restart. The scoring was rounded off by Julie Thibaud, netting her first goal since joining us a couple of years ago. Now six points above bottom-placed Crystal Palace, we now head into an international break, before an away visit to Leigh Sports Village on Sunday 2 March (12:30pm GMT kick-off) to take on Manchester United.
Persistence pays off
Netting the opener at King Power Stadium.
The chances were flowing early on in the game for both teams, with new signing Hlín Eiríksdóttir at the heart of a lot of action. First of all, she tried to turn a low cross from Missy Goodwin towards goal but couldn't find the finishing touch. Not long later, she picked up a loose ball inside the Villans' penalty area and weighed up her options. Deciding not to go for goal herself, she passed it across goal to Shana Chossenotte, but the ball was behind the winger, as the chance went begging. On the half-hour mark, City's persistence paid off, as the captain latched onto a ball back into the box from Sophie Howard, sending a bouncing effort beyond the goalkeeper. Quick-fire start to the second half
A worthy strike in the second half.
Holding a narrow lead at the break, it didn't take long to extend our lead and put the game out of sight of our Midlands rivals.
Cayman, who had already netted in the match, found her second in extraordinary fashion, with a volley from the edge of the box that beat the helpless Sabrina D'Angelo.
Two minutes later, Thibaud scored, and only five minutes of the second period had been played. Following a corner, Goodwin did well to loop the ball back into the box, which Howard directed back across goal for her centre-back partner to nod in from close range.
Torres makes her debut
Making her Leicester debut.
A late arrival on deadline day, we strengthened our attacking options with the loan signing of Karla Torres, an 18-year-old Colombian from Sante Fe who has a great potential in the game.
After her arrival from Bogota last week, the striker was named in Miquel's matchday squad, starting on the bench for Sunday's test against the Villans.
With a comfortable lead, the No.25 was introduced with 10 minutes to play, and she looked a lively option, as Miquel confirmed her third WSL win as City Manager.
