West Ham took the points this weekend after Verena Hanshaw and Shekiera Martinez scored in either half. An own goal inside the final 10 minutes from Eva Nyström made it a tight finish, but the away side held on to take the points.
There were four changes to the side that lost out to Tottenham Hotspur last weekend in the Adobe Women's FA Cup, with Janina Leitzig, Sari Kees, Rosella Ayane and Noémie Mouchon coming out for Olivia Clark, Emma Jansson, Hannah Cain and Rachel Williams.
Four home debuts
Four Foxes made their Filbert Way debuts.
It was a big moment for four of our Foxes in the starting XI, as Clark, Ashleigh Neville, Sarah Mayling and Emma Jansson all made their home debuts at King Power Stadium.
For Jansson, it was also a first start, as she lined up in the back three alongside Chantelle Swaby and Asmita Ale, but unfortunately didn't make it to half-time, and was replaced by Sari Kees with injury.
Neville and Mayling made their third start for the Club against the Hammers, as they look to cement their place in the team; both looking impressive on the flanks going forward.
The opener goal did come for the away side, as a pinpoint free-kick from Hanshaw looped over the wall and out of reach of Clark, making it 1-0 at the break.
West Ham take advantage
Leicester were beaten by West Ham on Sunday afternoon.
For large parts of the game, in particular the second half, City found themselves with the majority of possession and knocking on the door to get back level.
With plenty of chances going astray, the London outfit took advantage when their top scorer Martinez rifled one past Clark on 63 minutes to double the Hammers' advantage.
This cued the changes for Rick Passmoor, who introduced Alisha Lehmann onto the field for her City debut, in front of the Blue Army.
Mouchon forces one back
Mouchon made a positive impact off the bench.
In the latter stages of the game, Mouchon was also brought onto the field of play, and like usual, was keeping the opposition defenders busy with her direct and powerful style of play.
While it was Nyström who turned the ball into her own net, it was Mouchon who played the teasing ball into the path of Lehmann, leaving the Finnish defender no choice but to attempt to block it.
After the loss, we still sit ninth in the standings, but with the bottom four knocking on the door behind us, with only two points separating us from bottom-placed Liverpool.
