LCFC Women beat West Ham United 4-2 on Saturday afternoon
Janice Cayman, Hannah Cain and Sam Tierney netted at King Power Stadium
Foxes Manager Amandine Miquel reacted to the campaign’s conclusion
The Foxes scored four on the final day against the Hammers, confirming a highest-ever points tally in the Barclays Women’s Super League of 20. Although a two-goal gap was maintained for large parts of the game, with Janice Cayman, Hannah Cain (twice) and Sam Tierney all on the scoresheet, Viviane Asseyi’s brace made it a nervy game on Filbert Way.
“There was suspense,” the Manager stated. “What was good is that we managed to stay a goal, or two, ahead for most of the game and that helped because they were attacking with strength.
Finishing the season in style.
“I think on the few occasions we had, we did well to finish them and to finish the season like we did.”
After a challenging start to the campaign, which saw us operate without a traditional no.9 for periods of it, the former Stade de Reims Manager was proud of the team to keep working towards an inspiring finish.
She leaned on the fans' input as a key factor to our success on home soil, with all of our five wins this season, also a Club record in the top flight, coming at home.
“If you take the season and how it has been going, it’s been difficult to guess that we would break a new record,” Miquel admitted.
“For us, not getting relegated was good and now to have this new record is good and we want to keep progressing season after season.
“It was disappointing to not get the win at Palace, but it was great to get the job done at home, so we’re really happy.
“There were some goals today that I didn’t expect. As long as it goes in you can’t complain and I think everyone did well; not just the ones scoring but those that supplied them as well.
“Their support has been very important and hopefully next season we bring even more people and enjoy the games with us.”
