Although already relegated from the Premier League, City’s performances have improved over recent weeks. A draw at Brighton was followed by a valiant performance against Liverpool, and while a disappointing defeat at Wolves failed to derail that progress, this draw with Forest follows an encouraging home win over Southampton.
Conor Coady and Facundo Buonanotte found the net at the City Ground, either side of goals from Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood, to frustrate the hosts and continue Leicester’s steady improvement ahead of the end of this season.
“It was a strong finish to the game,” van Nistelrooy told the media. “We finished very strong. We had three opportunities to win it.

“I remember a break with Facundo and Jamie, Jeremy Monga with the shot at the edge of the box, and also Victor Kristiansen just missing a header by an inch.
“It was a very strong end to the game. Physically, we were very good and strong and it’s a credit to the players and how they prepared for this game during the week, and how they performed during the game. I’m very happy today.
“I look at the bigger picture since the Brighton game. We changed the narrative towards next season and finishing this season as good as we can, giving the fans some positives. The Brighton result was the start.
“The Liverpool performance was a good one, with a good connection with the crowd. Wolves, that was not good enough and we acknowledged that, but then we had Southampton and today.
“We know we are relegated and it’s still painful, but we are creating some kind of momentum towards the end of this season and also preparing ourselves for next.”

Youngster Jeremy Monga, 15, emerged from the bench to nearly win it for Leicester in stoppage time and van Nistelrooy was thrilled to see him have an impact on the game, despite combining football duties with schoolwork.
“It's fantastic how he develops himself, how humble he is, how hard he works, how focused he is also on finishing his school exams and doing well there,” he added.
“It’s the priority as well that he finishes his GCSEs in the best way possible, and in the meantime, he’s here to help us win games – and he nearly did it. It’s a joy to be around a talent and a young lad like him.”
