Steve Taylor and Paul Sharratt to take on 80-mile challenge
The duo will walk from Stocksbridge Park Steels to King Power Stadium
They aim to raise £2,500 to name and sponsor a guide dog puppy Vardy, in honour of our former striker and Club legend
Their five-day trek will end before our game with Coventry City on Saturday 20 September
Steve Taylor, from Holmfirth, and his brother-in-law Paul Sharratt, from Leicester, will set off on a five-day, 80-mile charity walk to raise funds for Guide Dogs UK. Their goal is to raise £2,500, enough to name and sponsor a guide dog puppy “Vardy” in honour of our former striker and Club legend, Jamie Vardy.
The trek will begin on Tuesday 16 September at Stocksbridge Park Steels, where Jamie’s remarkable football journey started.
From there, the route will go through South Yorkshire and Derbyshire, taking in several stadiums and grounds - including Hillsborough, Bramall Lane, Chesterfield, Coalville Town and Sheffield FC, the oldest football club in the world.
The finish line? None other than King Power Stadium, where Steve and Paul will complete their challenge on Saturday 20 September ahead of our Sky Bet Championship game against Coventry City.
Friends, family and fellow supporters are expected to join them for the final stretch - with a few guide dog puppies also tipped to cheer them on!
For Season Ticket holders, Steve and Paul, the walk is about more than football. “Vardy’s story is about belief and perseverance,” Steve explained.
“We want those same qualities to live on in a guide dog that will one day give someone with sight loss the independence they deserve.”
With all funds going directly to Guide Dogs UK, the campaign has already draw fantastic support, and if successful, “Vardy” the puppy will become part of a life-changing programme that transforms the futures of people living with sight loss.
