  • Ricardo Pereira speaks after our 2-2 draw at Oxford United on Saturday
  • Jordan Ayew and then Ricardo both hit back for Leicester City, after twice falling behind
  • We played 70 minutes with 10 men after Aaron Ramsey's red card
  • Ricardo was content with the result in the circumstance but admitted we went there for three points
We were behind early at Kassam Stadium after Will Lankshear’s opener, although Jordan Ayew hit his first goal of the season to swiftly restore parity on the scoresheet. A straight red card for new loan signing Aaron Ramsey, however, handed the U’s a man advantage for 70 minutes and they capitalised through Boubakary Soumaré’s own goal before half-time.
Ricardo, a second-half substitute, found the goal which rescued a point for the 10-man Foxes, who could have left with all three points, but in the circumstances left somewhat satisfied with a point which keeps us fourth in the early Sky Bet Championship table.
“Overall, after being one man down for 60 or 70 minutes, it’s difficult, especially when you suffer a goal just before half-time,” our captain said. “But then we tried our best, we knew that sometimes we’d have to defend, be compact, and wait for our opportunity.

“To get a point is something. It’s not ideal but it’s still a point. I think we succeeded a lot of times when we had the ball. If you run for 45 minutes without the ball, it’s more difficult, especially with 10 men. Fortunately, it was enough to score and get the point.”
This strike in Oxford was Ricardo’s second in as many games, after also finding the net in the 2-0 home win over Birmingham City, and he was pleased to contribute, although also eager to highlight the team work which led to the opening in the first place.
“It's a team goal with a lot of passes,” he added. “We were able to find the space through the middle and then Abdul found me in a good place. It’s nice to play, to help the team. It’s different, especially in the last two or three weeks.
“When you win and things go well, everyone is happy, enjoying it. Now it’s just [about] keeping building and keeping improving because I still feel we have a lot to improve. This is a type of game where you are in the game, sometimes you can get something at the end, or you can lose and the mood is bad.

“Of course, it wasn’t the win we wanted, but it’s still a point with the circumstance of the game being a little bit difficult. There’s some positives after that.”
With new signings swelling Manager Martí Cifuentes’ options and players including Bobby De Cordova-Reid and Victor Kristiansen working back towards full fitness, Ricardo is hopeful that we can continue to delivery results which will reward the Blue Army.
“It’s nice to have the new players that have come in,” the former FC Porto full-back continued. “Bobby was making his first [appearance of the season] today. Vic is nearby too so it’s good to have a lot of options in the season that we’ll have a lot of games. Everyone will have their time to be important and part of the group.
“We need to rebuild that connection between us and [the fans]. It was nice to see them happy, apart from not getting the victory, but still they appreciated the draw in this case and the performance.”
