Leicester City in the Community (LCitC), one of the official charities of LCFC, publishes this report annually to reflect on their work throughout the previous season, highlighting key moments, sharing powerful personal stories and showcasing the impact of every project they deliver across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. This year’s report once again demonstrates how football continues to be a force for good in the region, uniting communities and driving positive change.
Over the past year, rising food insecurity, youth isolation and increasing deprivation created mounting challenges. In response, Leicester City in the Community stepped up, building spaces where people feel welcomed, supported and part of something. The report reveals a season defined by record engagement, community-first innovation and life-changing connections, all powered by the LCFC badge.
This year’s impact at a glance:
£1.6M raised through grant funding and paid opportunities
12,000+ participants involved across more than 32 projects
126 player engagements from LCFC Men’s, Women’s, Academy squads and LCFC Legends
41% of participants were women and girls; 47% from ethnically diverse communities
58% of staff have lived experience of the challenges participants face
From mentoring young carers and tackling food poverty, to empowering women through sport and welcoming refugees through football, Leicester City in the Community’s work is driven by a simple mission: to create a place for everyone.
“This report is more than numbers, it’s a testament to the resilience of our communities, the dedication of our staff, and the power of football to inspire, connect and transform lives,” says Alli Tripney, Head of Community at Leicester City in the Community.
Grounded in local realities, the charity responds directly to issues affecting residents:
38% of people in Leicester have skipped meals for a full day, fuelling its commitment to fighting food poverty.
60% of young people say they don’t feel they belong in school, shaping its mentoring and school-based programmes.
34% of residents are physically inactive, driving targeted health initiatives across the region.
To meet these challenges, LCitC takes a bold, community-led approach, working through hyper-local hubs, targeted interventions and partnerships that allow the charity to be in the right place, at the right time, for those who need it most.
The report shines a light on some of the people behind the numbers, from Joel, a young boy at risk of exclusion who found confidence through the Foxes Friday programme, to Haleemah, whose love for LCFC Women empowered her to overcome her social anxiety.
With the full support of LCFC, LCitC continues to leverage the power of the badge to inspire positive social change. Player engagement remains a driving force within the charity’s programmes, helping participants feel connected to the Club and fostering a genuine sense of belonging. Some of the most impactful player engagements are highlighted in the Annual Impact Report and include Ricardo Peirera’s visit to the African Caribbean Centre for Black History Month, Bobby De-Cordova Reid and Harry Winks’ help at the charity’s winter food drive, and Abdul Fatawu attending an Iftar at King Power Stadium during Ramadan.
"It was a special moment to join an Iftar at King Power Stadium… It was wonderful meeting participants and seeing the Club so welcoming and supportive of initiatives like this." – Abdul Fatawu
The Annual Impact Report is also a heartfelt tribute to the staff and volunteers whose passion sits at the heart of every success. Without them, none of this work would be possible. They are the lifeblood of Leicester City in the Community, showing up every day with compassion, belief and an unwavering commitment to the 12,000+ participants they help each year.
By bringing these journeys and achievements together, the Annual Impact Report not only celebrates the difference Leicester City in the Community makes in the region, but also stands as a testament to the people who make it happen, offering a rare insight into the charity’s reach, ambition and commitment to creating a place for everyone in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland to belong.
