A Player of the Match performance from Janina Leitzig summed up the events, as City held in defensively and as a unit, to take a battling point back to Leicestershire.

There were two changes from the team that came from behind to draw 1-1 with Everton last weekend, with Chantelle Swaby and Jutta Rantala coming out for Heather Payne and Shannon O'Brien, with goalscorer Noémie Mouchon on the bench in Rick Passmoor's first game as permanent Manager.

Leitzig's first half heroics

A POTM performance.

While even in terms of possession, Villa had the most chances in the first half, 13, with seven on target, making Leitzig the busier of the two 'keeper in the 45 minutes.

Doing well to make herself big and judge her timings to come off her line, the German shot-stopper was to thank for the Foxes' ability to stay in the game at the interval.

A performance that proved to be vital, the clean sheet becomes the German's 11th in all competitions since joining the Foxes, initially on loan, in January 2023.

Leitzig's performance in front of our goal, assisted by the defensive unit of Sari Kees, Janice Cayman and Julie Thibaud, earned us a well-fought point at Villa Park, taking us up to five for the season.

Moving up to ninth in the table after Everton's defeat to Manchester United, the Midlands stalemate becomes our second clean sheet in six games this season.

With the tough visit of Arsenal up next in the league, two points and two unbeaten will give great confidence to Passmoor and his side.

Focus switches to the cup

We move up to ninth in the WSL.

Following Sunday's draw with Villa, we now look to the cup, with our next fixture on the road to WSL opposition London City Lionesses, who we take on in our second group stage game of the Subway Women's League Cup.

Last time out in the competition we saw off WSL2 side Ipswich Town, coming from behind to win 5-1 on the road, as O'Brien, Asmita Ale, Rosella Ayane, Sammy Kaczmar and Rantala all found the net.

Currently top of Group D on goal difference, a win against the second-placed Lionesses would put us in prime position to progress to the knockout stages.
