We drew 1-1 with Notts County at Meadow Lane on Saturday
Academy graduate Jayden Joseph hit the Foxes’ Sky Bet League One opener
It was a special moment for the 20-year-old to score his first LCFC goal
He was disappointed not to hold on for three points but believes improvements will come
Joseph played a key role in our season opener at Meadow Lane, breaking the deadlock with a superb edge-of-the-box finish set up by Sammy Braybrooke. Fellow Academy graduate Will Alves was also involved in the goal, a free-flowing 40-pass move. “I feel like, as a team, we’re a bit disappointed that we didn’t hold on and carry on for the win,” the ex-Tranmere Rovers loanee commented after the final whistle. “But personally, I’m quite happy to make my league debut and score my first goal for the Club.
“I saw Sammy on the edge of the box and the gap just opened up, so I thought, why not try it? And it paid off.
“I feel like, on the pitch, all the younger lads especially have a connection. We all just seem to understand each other and link up well. Hopefully it’s showing.”
His maiden senior goal for the Foxes, on his league debut, it was a dream moment for the 20-year-old to celebrate in front of the travelling Blue Army support, though there was disappointment not to hold on to that lead, with Conor Grant equalising late on and ensuring the home side took a share of the spoils.
Burton Albion are up next at King Power Stadium on Saturday, representing a chance to put a first win on the board in our first home game of the Sky Bet League One campaign. “I don’t even know how to describe it,” Joseph said on finding the net. “I was just speechless and enjoying the moment. I can’t put it into words. It was such a good feeling, especially in front of all the fans.
“It would have been even better to do it at home, but hopefully I can next week. I hope [that’s the first of many], I’ll do my best.
“The first game of the season, it’s not going to go perfectly, so we just need to keep building on it and we’ll get better as the weeks go on.”
