With the help of stats and insights from Dave Smith, who co-authored Of Fossils & Foxes, we've taken a look at some of the landmarks and memorable moments from past clashes against the Addicks.
Previous encounters
abdul-fatawu
We have crossed paths regularly across the top two tiers of English football. The most recent meeting came in August 2025, when we claimed a 1-0 Championship victory at The Valley, with Abdul Fatawu’s stunner settling a tight and nervy contest in the capital.
Prior to that, the sides last met during the 13/14 Championship campaign. At King Power Stadium, City produced one of their most convincing performances , running out 3-0 winners thanks to goals from Jamie Vardy, Danny Drinkwater and David Nugent. Earlier that season, Charlton edged a 2-1 victory on home soil.
The 12/13 season proved frustrating for the Foxes, with defeats in both league meetings despite goals from Chris Wood and Andy King, while the previous decade also featured a hard-fought 1-1 draw in December 2007, with Stephen Clemence scoring City’s goal.
Recent cup clashes have tended to favour City. In the 2005 FA Cup Fifth Round, goals from Nikos Dabizas and Dion Dublin secured a 2-1 win at The Valley, while a memorable 1998 League Cup tie also ended in a 2-1 Foxes victory, courtesy of a Tony Cottee brace.
Landmark moments
les-ferdinand
This fixture has produced several statistical quirks. Despite 54 meetings in all competitions, no player has ever scored a hat-trick against the other – an unusual record for such a long-running fixture, which dates back to 35/36. Tony Cottee’s double in the 1998 League Cup remains the most recent brace by a Leicester player.
Penalty drama has also played its part. Steve Lynex remains City’s last scorer from the spot against Charlton, converting in November 1981, while Paolo Di Canio netted Charlton’s most recent penalty in the fixture in May 2004, on the day Leicester were relegated from the Premier League. He also found the net, in controversial circumstances, from the spot during the reverse fixture earlier that campaign, levelling a Les Ferdinand (pictured) opener for the Foxes.
Own goals have cropped up sporadically, with Tony Brien (1987) and Paul Mortimer (1991) among those to have inadvertently altered the scoresheet. Debut wide, most recently, Silko Thomas made his Leicester bow in the August 2025 meeting, while Matty James remains the last Fox sent off in the fixture, back in 2013. Charlton’s most recent dismissal dates further back, to Steve Brown in 2001.

There are numerous connections between the two clubs. The most recent transfers in either direction both involved goalkeepers, with Ben Hamer joining Leicester from Charlton in 2014, and Simon Royce moving the other way in 2003 – both reportedly on free transfers.
A long list of players have represented both sides, including Chris Powell, Yann Kermorgant, Michael Morrison, Paul Konchesky, Martyn Waghorn, Ademola Lookman and Stephy Mavididi. Notably, former Fox Kermorgant scored for Charlton in each of his first three appearances against Leicester after leaving Filbert Way.
In rarer company, Len Glover, Paul Went (managing the feat in a single match with the aid of an own goal) and Paul Mortimer have all scored for both clubs in this fixture.
In terms of outright top scorers, Keith Peacock leads the way for Charlton with five goals against City, while Rodney Fern (pictured) and Alan Young remain Leicester’s most prolific marksmen, with three apiece.
