Goals from Sam Long and Mark Harris in either half sealed the win for Matt Bloomfield’s U’s, with Abdul Fatawu getting one back for Leicester City late on.
This result leaves us 14th in the Championship standings with Charlton Athletic visiting Filbert Way next Saturday.
Oxford go ahead
King Power Stadium
After paying tribute to Howard Riley, our 1964 League Cup winner and one of our greatest players who sadly passed away this month, the action got underway in LE2.
It was a frustrating start for Martí Cifuentes’ men, who were without injured Jordan James and Oliver Skipp. Within five minutes the visitors were in front.
It came about as Myles Peart-Harris’ long throw-in asked questions in the penalty area, before Long was in the right place, at the back post, to prod it past Jakub Stolarczyk.
A second goal
Ben Nelson
With Leicester pushing upwards, but struggling to carve out goalscoring opportunities, Peart-Harris and Stanley Mills both had decent chances for Oxford.
In the 71st minute, with City committed high up the pitch, U’s substitute Brian De Keersmaecker released Harris, who was behind the home backline.
He ran forward with the ball before taking a touch round the goalkeeper and finishing into an empty net to give Bloomfield’s men a two-goal advantage.
One back
Abdul Fatawu
We had some chances over the 90 but not enough to take anything from the game. Earlier on, Stephy Mavididi’s curler had gone over, while in the second half, Fatawu lashed a half-volley across the penalty area.
Substitute Patson Daka’s header, from Louis Page’s cross, was saved by Jamie Cumming as well, before Fatawu’s powerful hit got one back for Leicester with six minutes remaining.
That was to be that, however, as Oxford left with the points.
