We entertain Portsmouth in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday (7:45pm kick-off)
Manager Martí Cifuentes says Stephy Mavididi will be monitored ahead of that clash with Pompey
He also confirmed the international players are now back in Seagrave after the penultimate break of the calendar year
We host Pompey for a 7:45pm kick-off on Filbert Way hoping to build on the 3-1 victory at Swansea City before the international break, leaving us third in the Sky Bet Championship. Mavididi missed that visit to Wales with a muscular complaint but Martí Cifuentes, speaking to the media on Friday, said the winger is close to a return. “The only one is Stephy,” he told reporters in Seagrave. “He’s recovering from a small muscular issue but he’s getting very close.
“We’ll see. We’ll assess him. I’ll listen to the medical and take a final decision. Stephy is an very important player for us. It’ll be good news [when he’s back], the sooner the better, but we want to make sure there’s no set-backs or issues.”
All players who represented their country over the past fortnight are now back in the UK, with some returning earlier than others, and the Manager was pleased to report no issues on the back of the break.
“Everybody’s back,” he added. “The last ones were long travels for Hamza [Choudhury] and Bobby [De Cordova-Reid] but they came in good shape.
“Bobby scored a goal and got a good result. It’s great news for Abdul [Fatawu] and Jordan [Ayew], qualifying for Ghana, Jannik [Vestergaard] had a good result as well.”
