We entertain Southampton at King Power Stadium on Saturday (3pm BST kick-off)
Both sides have already been relegated from the Premier League this term
Wilfred Ndidi wants City to give the Blue Army something to cheer between now and the end of the season
He also paid tribute to Jamie Vardy, who is set to depart the Club after 13 magnificent years of service
Our relegation to the Sky Bet Championship has already been confirmed, but with games still to play, Ndidi is adamant that there is still work to be done and plenty to play for. Performances against Brighton & Hove Albion (2-2 away draw) and Liverpool (1-0 home defeat) brought some enthusiasm for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men, although last weekend’s 3-0 reverse at Wolverhampton Wanderers was a hugely disappointing one for City.
Also-relegated Southampton are next up at King Power Stadium on Saturday and Ndidi is determined to give the Blue Army something to cheer. “It’s been a difficult season,” the Nigeria international said this week in Seagrave. “Going down, it’s not the season we expected. We should have done better.
“It’s a game where we’ll try and put smiles on some faces. It’s been a long season, we know where we are now, and we’ll try as much as possible to play for the fans so they have something to cheer about.
“This is life and it’s a lesson to look forward to the next one to be better. Sometimes when you’re down, you’ve got to pick yourselves up and look forward to what’s coming next.”
Ndidi has shared the highs and lows of his eight years at the Club alongside Jamie Vardy, who recently announced the 2024/25 campaign is to be his last in Leicester blue. The former Genk midfielder, who has won the FA Cup, Community Shield and Championship with the Foxes, hopes our No.9 can sign off in style.
“I can be proud to say I’ve played with Jamie Vardy,” he added. “He’s a legend. He’s been amazing for the Club. He’s a good motivation for the young lads. People love him.
“(If Jamie Vardy scored his 200th goal in the coming weeks), that would be amazing. Two hundred goals... what a guy. Maybe because I play in midfield, it’s a lot.
“He may be like ‘I should have scored more’ but 200 is a lot. Even more than some people’s appearances. It’s a great achievement for him if he can get that.”
