We head to Villa Park for a 12pm kick-off on Sunday with four points already collected from the opening five games under Passmoor’s management.
Having been confirmed as the permanent Manager in the week, after serving on an interim basis so far this season, Passmoor is looking to continue the progress already made.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, before that announcement, he spoke about the test he expects from Villa, the development of the team this year, and the spirit within the group.
‘Give a good account of ourselves’
Villa are an established WSL side who possess some hugely talented players. That being said, just one point separates them from City in the table, but Passmoor is expecting a stern test of our ambitions across the Midlands this weekend.
“They’re a very, very good team,” he told reporters at Belvoir Drive. “Obviously, they’ve got a fantastic stadium. It’s a bit of a local derby I believe.
“They’ve got some really good players, so we’ve got to have a game plan. Like every week, we’ve got to be committed to the game plan as individuals and as a unit to ensure that we give a good account of ourselves. It’ll be a very tough fixture away at Villa.
‘It’ll take time’
Noémie Mouchon’s 82nd-minute goal rescued a point for the Foxes last time out against Everton on Filbert Way, although it was one of just two shots on target in the game.
When that statistic was put to Passmoor, namely that neither side had created an on-target effort in the first half, the Manager explained the work that is being done to help the players carve our more opportunities in games.
“We’re changing the complete philosophy,” he added. “It’ll take time, it’ll take weeks, months. We’ve got opposition that have had the same managers for two or three years and therefore they know each other inside out.
“We’re continuously learning. We’re learning about how to play with the ball, we’re looking at different types of pressing actions.
“What we want to ensure is that we’re comfortable in possession when we’re entering the final third, that we’re competent and relaxed and composed in possession, to then create those opportunities and to be able to take them as well. Everybody’s aware of it, but we know it'll take time. We’re pleased with the direction of travel.”
‘We’re willing to push ourselves’
Passmoor knows the 25/26 campaign will continue to throw up tough challenges for his players, but has nevertheless been impressed with their spirit and manner in which they have met those tests front on so far this season.
“The great thing is that you’re only as good as your last game,” he explained. “As soon as the 90 or 100 minutes is finished, you’re already thinking there’s another game in seven days and we’ve got to play again.
“In terms of the togetherness, the drive, what we’ve insisted on as a unit, whatever comes to the King Power or wherever we go, we have that as a baseline and a foundation.
“We know it’s going to be a challenge this season and we’re expecting that challenge and we’re willing to push ourselves on the pitch and in training.
“It’s a minimum that we need to be. We need to be a collective and a team moving forward, so that’s pleasing to see. That gives a benchmark and then we want to develop from that foundation.”
