Trawling through the record books, here are some of those key statistics from the League One title winning season…
The Foxes were in no mood to hang around in the third tier and secured an immediate return to the Championship at the first time of asking under the stewardship of Nigel Pearson, during his initial stint as Leicester City Manager.
We didn’t have it all our own way, however, with several entertaining score draws across the campaign. Five times, in fact, it ended in a 2-2 stalemate, including at Swindon Town, Hartlepool United and MK Dons, as well as being held at home to Walsall, Carlisle United and Scunthorpe United.
But there were also several high-scoring matches in which City scored all four of the goals, with two of the three 4-0 victories we secured that season coming against Cheltenham Town.
Coincidentally, the home fixture versus the Robins, in March 2009, was the last of the 23-game unbeaten league run, which still stands as the Club record longest streak of consecutive league games without defeat. A 2-0 reverse to Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park finally ended that impressive run four days later.
Peterborough United were the other side we convincingly to put to the sword by the same scoreline, meanwhile, on Filbert Way just before Christmas.
In total, Leicester triumphed in 14 of the 23 away matches that term, the joint most of any campaign, alongside the Championship title-winning seasons of 13/14 and 23/24. Away goals were not in short supply, either, with the 43 scored another club record.
Many of those were scored by forward Matty Fryatt, whose 27 league goals that season saw him finish as our top goalscorer, just two behind the division’s leading marksmen, Rickie Lambert and Simon Cox, who both found the net on 29 occasions.
The forward’s exploits saw him named Player of the Month for December, before collecting the Football League Awards Player of the Year for League One, as well as being included in the PFA League One Team of the Year alongside team-mates Jack Hobbs and Matt Oakley.
