Academy graduate Alves, who joined the Terriers on loan on Deadline Day, came on as a 56th-minute substitute, making his mark just four minutes later, converting from close range to level up the scores.

A strong finish saw Lee Grant’s side claim a 3-2 home victory and sit third in the Sky Bet League 1 table ahead of travelling across Yorkshire to meet Bradford City in this Saturday’s early kick-off.

In Sky Bet League 2, Opoku’s Newport County bow also brought with it a maiden goal from the substitutes bench, though his strike in the final minute of normal time wasn’t enough to see the hosts claim anything from their clash with Bristol Rovers, losing out 3-2.

Helping Swindon Town to a 3-1 success away at Barrow, the defender played just over an hour at SO Legal Stadium. The Robins, behind leaders Gillingham on goal difference only, head back home this weekend, take on Harrogate Town on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

Moving north of the border, midfielder Henry Cartwright started Falkirk’s 1-0 win over Aberdeen on Sunday, getting another 81 minutes in the tank at Pittodrie, his eighth appearance of the season across all competitions.

The Bairns move up to eighth in the table as a result, level on points from Rangers at this early stage of the Scottish Premiership campaign, with St. Mirren heading to Falkirk Stadium on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
