Beaten 4-0 by the Red Devils on Sunday, it was a difficult 25/26 season opener for the Foxes, led by Interim Manager Rick Passmoor, who conceded twice in each half against a rampant home side who displayed their quality, dominating large periods of the game. Analysing the curtain raiser at Leigh Sports Village, Cayman outlined the key moments in the game, with opportunities to reduce the deficit - when Hannah Cain fashioned a chance of her own, before Nelly Las was denied by Phallon Tullis-Joyce - not taken.

“We knew it was not going to be an easy assignment against Man U, but I think we showed what we can do and it’s a performance we can build on for the next games,” City’s captain expressed.
“Playing a new system, it’s trying to see where we can improve and get better. We fully believed in it and we had some good chances to make it 2-1. Unfortunately, they didn’t go in but if it became 2-1, it may have been a different game.
“We worked very, very hard today and I’m proud of the team.”
Debutants included Celeste Boureille and Emily Van Egmond, while Olivia McLoughlin and Heather Payne also made their first Foxes appearances from the bench, offering a new dimension to the team, also welcoming Jutta Rantala back into the fold after a lengthy injury lay off.

“It’s great to have them in the team,” the 36-year-old added. “I think we have a good squad and it’s trying to make improvements and to play together for the first time, we showed what we can keep working on.
“Last season wasn’t an easy season, but this group is special and the players that we’ve got together, I think we can do some good things. I’m very happy that she (Rantala) made her comeback today and we’ll need her for sure.
“We just all have the same goal in mind, to get better and to keep performing. We were focused on the first league game. I think we’re doing a good job.
“We have multiple leaders in the team and we all stick together. We keep working hard and I think that will show in the games.”
