  • We drew 1-1 with Wrexham at STōK Cae Ras on Tuesday evening
  • Jannik Vestergaard scored a last-minute equaliser for the Foxes
  • Martí Cifuentes gave his take on the point earned in north east Wales
It was far from a classic Sky Bet Championship clash, with testing conditions for both sides as the rain swirled around STōK Cae Ras. And the Foxes looked to be heading home empty handed following Lewis O’Brien’s second-half opener for the home side.
However, a 90th-minute equaliser from centre-back Jannik Vestergaard, back in the XI following injury, levelled up the scores and prevented a second away defeat in three days, leaving us 14th in the table.
“[It was] a difficult game,” City’s Manager reflected in his post-match interview. “It was a game with two different halves. Obviously, the conditions had a big influence. We were aware that the conditions would be a big part of it, especially in the second half, because of how windy it was on the pitch.

“The ball in behind was stopped by the wind so we needed to play through and then Wrexham could press as we did in the first half. We know that they have capable players but at the same time, they can combine this direct style.
“Today they had Kieffer Moore [in attack], which they have not done in the last weeks. They have been playing with [others] up top, who are a different type of player. Having more of a target player definitely helped them to put more pressure on. We were deeper and we could be better in coping with this.”
A different challenge to the ones faced in recent weeks, Cifuentes felt his side should have capitalised on the opportunities created, though praised the players for staying in the game until the final whistle.
“In the first half, we were, in my opinion, the better team,” the Spaniard explained. “We had a couple of good chances to really take the lead, but it was difficult for Wrexham to progress up the pitch.
“We were able to put some good pressure on and to play quite high. We just missed a little bit of continuity to create more chances. I think in the second half, we knew the pitch would change and it was not a good second half so it’s disappointing that we couldn’t keep the level.
“Some moments were difficult but credit to the players towards the end for fighting for a point that could be important.”

Vestergaard cushioned down Caleb Okoli’s flick on before sending a controlled finish past Arthur Okonkwo to ensure Leicester had something to show for the efforts, but the Manager, although pleased to fight back, wanted more than the draw.
“That doesn’t change the fact that we are disappointed because we are never happy with a point,” he added. “Especially when we didn’t play a good second half, it’s perhaps more disappointing and I think it’s good to keep the standards in the sense that it’s not just enough to get a point away from home.
“That’s the reason why all of us were frustrated at the end of the game. It’s a point, we want to deliver something better and that’s why it’s important to make sure that we don’t lose a football game but at the same time, the aim is always for the three points.”
