- Leicester City beat Southampton 2-0 in the Premier League on Saturday
- Jamie Vardy and Jordan Ayew scored at King Power Stadium
- It is the Foxes’ fifth Premier League victory of 2024/25
At a sunny King Power Stadium, we claimed three Premier League points on home soil for the first time since December. Ghana forward Ayew added to Jamie Vardy’s well-taken opener to help the Foxes register their fifth success of the 2024/25 top-flight campaign.
Asked his thoughts at full-time, he said: “It was a good game. We had to settle down in the game, obviously it’s not been easy.
“We can be proud of the boys and everyone that we kept going and gave our best. It’s not easy, but we were fighting today to finish as high as possible.”
After Vardy had netted on 17 minutes for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side, Ayew drilled home at the second attempt having seen his initial free-kick hit the Saints wall.
“I tried to go direct from the free-kick but it hit the wall, obviously I was lucky the ball came back and I got a good strike,” he explained. “I thank God, it has not been easy for everyone but we just kept going and today, it went our way, so I’m happy.
“I told him (James Justin) to leave it to have a shot, I tried to get it on target and I’m glad, I’m happy. We work hard every day and it’s not always been going our way for some time. Some games were close but today went our way and now we keep our heads down.”
Ayew and his team-mates remain motivated to see out the season well, not least to help Vardy achieve 200 goals in all competitions in Leicester colours.
“Obviously it’s the end of the season so we want to finish the season well for him because he’s done so well not only for Leicester but also the Premier League, for the whole world,” Ayew added.
“We’ve all enjoyed watching him scoring goals so today, he’s got a goal and we’re happy for him. Hopefully he can get 200 [goals] as soon as possible.”
