Martí Cifuentes provided updates on City’s injured trio prior to Wednesday’s Carabao Cup clash
Ricardo Pereira, Victor Kristiansen and Bobby De Cordova-Reid missed Sunday’s victory
There could be changes to the starting XI when tackling Huddersfield Town, the Manager revealed
Foxes captain Ricardo, Victor Kristiansen and Bobby De Cordova-Reid were all absent from Sunday’s victory over Sheffield Wednesday, the opening fixture of the new Sky Bet Championship campaign, though City’s newly appointed skipper is making good progress in his recovery from injury. Cifuentes earlier revealed a clash in training saw Kristiansen miss the summer trip to Austria, with Bobby De Cordova-Reid not featuring throughout the pre-season schedule having played for Jamaica in the summer, with City's Manager awaiting further news on the length of their absences.
“[There’s been] progress for both of them,” he told the media on Monday. “Ricardo started today to train with the group which is a very positive one. He felt very good. Hopefully we are not far away from seeing him.
“It depends a little bit on the next days and the feedback from the medical department. In the beginning we were talking about some weeks but hopefully we will get a proper clear answer (on Kristiansen) in the next couple of weeks.
“He (De Cordova-Reid) picked up an injury while he was on international duty. He is recovering, working hard, working well and there is good feedback from the medical department. But he is a bit behind Ricardo so it will take some weeks for him to recover.”
It’s a quick turnaround for the Foxes, with a clash against Huddersfield Town in the Carabao Cup First Round coming up this Wednesday night (7:45pm BST) and although everyone came through Sunday unscathed, the Spaniard hinted at potentially shuffling the pack for the trip to Accu Stadium. “All the players felt good,” the 43-year-old added. “There’s a few niggles here and there as you’d expect from a football game, but all good. You saw in the game yesterday that I used all five subs and you saw the impact from the bench to decide the game.
“We’re going to evaluate and I will have a meeting with my staff but obviously it might be that we make some changes, especially because I want to see other players as well and perhaps the game will require some different things than what we needed against Sheffield Wednesday.”
