Sam Tierney becomes the second player to make 100 WSL appearances for the same club
Sunday’s defeat in the capital was a tough one to take, explained Tierney, admitting the Foxes must do better if we are to stay in the division. Frustrating to lose after taking the lead at Copperjax Community Stadium, the midfielder shared her thoughts after the full-time whistle.
“It wasn’t good enough, especially the second half,” the 27-year-old stated. “In the first half, there were elements that we wanted to do which were there.
The captain urges City to remain focused on the upcoming games.
“We wanted to be front footed and aggressive, and then we got a goal, but we shouldn’t concede straight away, that was disappointing.
“It’s a sign of how our season is going at the minute, but the second half, for sure, is not up to the standards we set.
“But we’ve got more games left, and we know what we’ve got to do. We have to pick ourselves up, there’s no other option.
“It’s great when you’re winning, but when you’re in a difficult position like we are, that’s when it matters more.
“We learn from things like this, so we just have to pick ourselves up because we know what it takes to stay in this league, so we just need to try our best to do that now.”
Sticking with Leicester through our highs and lows, Sunday’s defeat in the capital had a silver lining for our captain, as it was WSL appearance number 100.
Sunday was Tierney's 100th appearance in the WSL, all of which have come for Leicester.
Only the second-ever player to achieve the feat while at the same club, she was delighted to reach such a milestone, but drew attention back to the next game, as she hopes to repay the fans for their incredible support this season.
“Playing for Leicester is a huge honour, and I’m a player that wants to give everything I’ve got,” Tierney explained.
“I’m committed, humble and honest and as a club, we’re in a difficult position. The fans are brilliant and they are always there to support you, and they have the same feelings as us.
“It’s a tough time, and we need to stick together to get through this. We cannot thank them enough for their support and I urge them to stick with us.
“We have to pick ourselves up. You can’t dwell on this result; you’ve got to reflect quickly and turn it around for the next game. We know the points we need, and we’ll give it everything we’ve got.”
