15 May, 2021 is a date Thomas will always remember. A historic day for the Club, winning the prestigious trophy for the first time in our history, it was also the defender’s first taste of silverware at senior level, beating Chelsea 1-0 in the final at Wembley Stadium.
A huge milestone in his career, he also experienced the Blue Army backing, as a small number of City supporters were able to enjoy the moment from under the Wembley arch, following the reintroduction of crowds after the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It would be winning the FA Cup, definitely,” he revealed, when asked about his proudest moment on the pitch. “It was my first game with the fans, so my first real experience of what it’s like.
“Obviously, it was the biggest game of my life, really. We performed well on the day, got the win and it was just a feeling that I’d never had before, so hopefully I can get that again.”
The full-back made a big impact, too, setting up Youri Tielemans to score what was the only goal of the contest, though the 24-year-old is particularly modest in his assessment of his own contribution to that stunning strike.
He added: “It was a five-yard pass, Youri did the rest! It was a great moment.
“I had my family there, it was the first time that they had been able to come and see me play, so it was an emotional moment and something that I will cherish forever.”
