Leicester City drew 0-0 with Coventry City on Saturday afternoon
The Foxes move on to 11 points and remain unbeaten on home soil
Manager Martí Cifuentes gave his post-match reaction
The Spaniard was pleased with some aspects but wants more from his side
Neither side could find a breakthrough during a tense and, at times, fraught 90 minutes of action at King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon, with the Foxes maintaining an unbeaten home record in the Sky Bet Championship so far this term.
While it’s another point on the board, Cifuentes acknowledged that more of a cutting edge in the final third could have made the difference on Filbert Way, with a trio of clear-cut chances going begging.
“I’m never happy after a draw,” he admitted, speaking soon after the final whistle. “We want to win games and especially at home I felt that after the 90 minutes perhaps we miss the last edge.
“But overall, I am satisfied with a lot of things today. It’s a step forward in terms of some areas of our game. Perhaps the last 15-20 minutes of the first half, and the beginning of the second half were very good.
“We had the capacity to break through against a very good opponent and perhaps when I look back, they got chances in our turnover in the second half, but altogether I think the best three chances were with us with JJ (Jordan James), with Stephy [Mavididi] and with Julián [Carranza].
“Hopefully we can improve a little more in some areas, but I like the way the players are working and the personality that we showed against a good team.”
Back-to-back draws moves the Foxes’ tally up to 11 points, showing powers of recovery to earn a draw at Oxford United last week, but always looking for more, and the Spaniard is keen to continue the upward trajectory of improvement.
The 43-year-old explained: “Always, even against Oxford, we said it was an important performance in terms of the togetherness that we showed, but we still need to be better and improve in winning games.
“Today I liked some of the things we did, especially when we were pressing high up the pitch. In the first 20 minutes, we struggled a bit to break the high press but slowly we started to get to the rhythm of the game and we were better.
“I think there are many areas we can improve and that’s on me. As long as the guys keep working as we are doing, I’m sure that we are going to get better. The fans were amazing and hopefully next time we can give them the three points.”
Welcoming back Ricardo Pereira to the starting XI and handing Jordan James his full Foxes debut, there was also a first appearance in Leicester colours for Julián Carranza and having such options from bench will be crucial as the season goes on, Cifuentes believes.
He added: “It’s great news for the whole team and for me as a manager it creates a little bit of a headache, but that’s a luxury problem and it’s very good news to see Ricardo starting after the injury.
“The strength and the power that we have from the bench as well is very important. It has not been easy to take decisions. Some players who have been doing really well couldn’t play today.
“Hopefully they understand that during the season everyone will be very important, as they have been, and I’m sure it’s going to be one of our strengths to make sure that everybody understands the moment in the game and during the season.”
