A daunting task awaits on Sunday, up against the eight-time Barclays Women’s Super League champions, though the Foxes’ trip to the capital comes off the back of a first league win of the campaign.
Ahead of this 12pm BST kick-off at Kingsmeadow, City’s Interim Manager sat down with reporters inside Belvoir Drive to discuss the momentum he hopes to carry forward from a morale-boosting victory on home soil last time out.
‘A feel-good factor’

Naturally, there was a buoyant mood within the camp across the week, following a 1-0 success over Liverpool in our maiden home fixture of 25/26 at King Power Stadium, getting up and running despite playing the majority of the second half with just 10 players, roared on by the Blue Army on Filbert Way.
“It’s always good to get those three points,” Passmoor admitted. “We’ve spoken about having that extra fan power and their backing, which I heard throughout the 90 minutes, is a real credit to them. It helped us get over the line last week.
“As a team, home form is really important and building a fortress. We started well last week. When you’re away, you put targets in there, not only in terms of performances, but points as well. It’s important, as we build momentum, to win away from home.
“Your momentum is the confidence, the ability. As a manager, you push and prod a little bit more when there’s a feel-good factor around the environment because you get 10 per cent more off them and can extend them.
“You work them a little bit more when it’s a happy camp and we’ve really worked hard this week. It’s good to see that everybody wants to be out on the training pitch. This week is reinforcing the processes and learning and developing a style of play which will take time.
“In my position as Interim Manager, I deal with what’s in the building and it’s for me to get the best out of those players to ensure that we represent the Club and we put in the minimum of a good shift to make the Club and the fanbase proud. I’m not looking any further. It’s good to have a base as a foundation to work from, but you’re always developing.
“I get on with the job every day and the environment is exceptional. The players are working hard and the staff have taken on every bit of information and apply it around behaviours. We’re building a platform steadily.”
‘An opportunity’

Expected to shuffle the pack due to the absence of the suspended Shannon O’Brien, Passmoor wants City’s players to take their chance to impress against one of the world’s best, having earned a 1-1 draw in the home fixture last term.
The Blues have already looked formidable, seeing off Manchester City and Aston Villa to maintain a 100 per cent record early on, despite the absence of key players such as Lucy Bronze, Lauren James and Naomi Girma – all of which remain out for Leicester’s visit to west London, head coach Sonia Bompastor confirmed on Thursday.
“It just gives an opportunity,” the Interim Manager explained. “Don’t play with fear, be brave, enjoy that moment and occasion. Play to your best ability and how we wish to play the game. If you play well, you retain the shirt.
“If you look across the WSL, there’s not one easy game anymore. As a player, as a manager, as a club, it’s exciting. We’re confident. We will be going down there against Chelsea as the underdog, but we go with a gameplan and every player needs to be focused for the 100 or so minutes.
“It doesn’t define us at this early stage, but we know we’re playing against an incredible team, not only the starting XI but on the bench too. You’ve got the history, how they play, the different formations and an abundance of world-class players in that changing room.
“We’ve got to ensure that we’re set up and understand that during the game there might be changes of systems, changes of players, but we’re comfortable being able to cover every base that they throw at us.
“We’re just really looking forward to the game and we’re going there with no fear but loads of respect. You take a bit of a steely mentality with you and remind the players of the good from last season and the point taken. That is a stepping stone for the direction of travel.”
‘Credit to the players’

A disciplined defensive performance helped to secure three points against the Reds, with City able to keep a clean sheet following Emily van Egmond’s first goal for the Club. It was a performance that typified the ethic within the team, Passmoor believes, who is keen to develop the tactical ideas further in the coming weeks.
He added: “If you look back at Sunday’s game, we were not in any state of confusion or worry when we went down to 10 players. They switched on to a style of play that has been a benchmark over the last 12 months.
“Out of possession, you can see the work that has been applied. We want to continue to have that as part of our mantra. But also, what we need to progress over the coming season is our in-possession [game], being comfortable and brave on the ball, working on patterns of play to be more in charge.
“Sometimes you go into a game with a plan and it doesn’t work. Therefore, you’ve got to be able to rely on the leadership on the pitch and change during the game. We saw that last week and it’s a massive credit to the players on the pitch.
“We want to build on from what was in place. We’ve got players here who wear the shirt with pride, want to represent the city and the Club and we’ve got to build.”
