It was a 3-1 reverse at Sheffield United for the Foxes on New Year’s Day
Martí Cifuentes spoke following a disappointing afternoon at Bramall Lane
The Manager felt his side struggled to create going forward
Jordan James scored City’s goal in stoppage-time but it was too little too late
Japhet Tanganga, Tom Cannon and Callum O’Hare all netted for the home side at Bramall Lane prior to Jordan James’ stoppage-time consolation, and assessing the defeat, the Spaniard pointed to a lack of consistency as a key issue which is currently plaguing his side, having beaten Derby County three days prior to the reverse in south Yorkshire.
“First of all, I want to apologise to the fans because it’s a poor performance and that’s not the kind of game that we want to have after the last win at home,” Cifuentes stated. “It’s been a poor game all over.
“We were not consistent enough to win our duels. We knew that Sheffield United would play with two strikers and that they would press in a diamond and we had to be consistent in our build-up, to have a lot of turnovers.
“I think it was a poor performance attacking-wise but based on the fact that we had a lot of turnovers and unforced mistakes and individual mistakes, that cost us the three goals.
“There is not an explanation on why we played poorly but it’s difficult when we don’t have this level of consistency from game to game.”
Youngsters Jeremy Monga and Louis Page both emerged from the bench in the second half, while we await updates on several injured players and the timescale of their returns to action.

City’s Manager continued: “They showed personality, exactly what we needed in terms of trying to keep the ball for longer, press high up the pitch, be able to take on and go one-on-one against a player and they did really well.
“We’ll see how it looks in the next few days. We’re going to assess with the medical department. Some of them are progressing well and we will see how they are and if they can manage the next game.
“There is no doubt that we need to make sure that we get help as well because at the moment we have some injured players so hopefully we can recover someone.”
Drawing a line under the defeat, it’s West Bromwich Albion up next back at King Power Stadium on Monday, offering an opportunity to put in a much-improved performance on home soil.
“It’s my responsibility to make sure that this is not happening,” Cifuentes added. “We are working really hard on behalf of the Club, on behalf of the supporters to correct those things and there is no hiding the fact that we have not been good enough to build a good run of results.
“We need to learn from what happened today and we need to keep improving for an important part of the season. Hopefully we manage to regroup and offer a much better performance in front of our supporters.”
