Goals from Blades captain Japhet Tanganga, former Fox Tom Cannon and Callum O'Hare did the damage at Bramall Lane, before Jordan James' stoppage-time consolation, as the Foxes fell to defeat in south Yorkshire, just three days on from beating Derby County on home soil.
It’s a result which leaves us 13th in the standings, six points outside the top six, heading into Monday night’s clash with West Bromwich Albion at King Power Stadium (8pm GMT kick-off).
A tough first period
Ben Nelson
The Blades were on the attack in the opening minutes with Patrick Bamford’s shot from a tight angle saved by Jakub Stolarczyk, a feat he would repeat a few minutes later, while Cannon’s effort was blocked by Ben Nelson, as the City rearguard saw off a positive United start. Andre Brooks then diverted Sam McCallum’s corner wide, as Chris Wilder’s side were initially unable to profit from their early pressure.
They would, however, gain the advantage 10 minutes before half-time. A bullet header from Tanganga, meeting another McCallum corner in the six-yard box, gave the hosts a lead that was deserved on the balance of play.
Blades turn the screw
Leicester City
City would have been eager to fly out of the traps in the second 45 after a below par first half, but any momentum we could have gained was quickly extinguished by a second goal.
Brooks got the better of Luke Thomas down the wing, pulling the ball back for Cannon to net via a first-time finish from inside the box.
Having scored in the reverse fixture on Filbert Way earlier in the season, the ex-City striker once again came back to haunt us.
A third wrapped it up, with Femi Seriki's low cross perfect for O'Hare to slide in and finish from close range to put the result beyond doubt, despite James' impressive finish late on, finding the bottom corner to notch his eighth league goal of the campaign.
Lacking a cutting edge
Silko Thomas
The Foxes, meanwhile, failed to test Michael Cooper in the first 45; Abdul Fatawu coming closest with a speculative hit from 35 yards out which landed wide of the target – our first attempt on the half-hour mark.
He tried a similar effort after the break, too, but this one was too high to get his side back in the contest. Nelson, up from the back for a corner, couldn’t keep his strike on target either, firing over when the ball fell for him to have a go.
Chances for full debutant Silko Thomas, who led the line as our no.9, were in short supply and the introduction of Jordan Ayew 12 minutes into the second half, followed by Academy graduates Jeremy Monga and Louis Page, didn’t increase our attacking output enough to get into the game. But with the Baggies up next in four days’ time, there’ll be little time to dwell on this defeat.
