Leicester City beat Swansea City 3-1 in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday
Jordan James, Abdul Fatawu and Jannik Vestergaard all scored for the Foxes
Manager Martí Cifuentes reflected on collecting three points in south west Wales
He was pleased with a much-improved performance following four draws in a row
A 3-1 win over Swansea City came following a late double from Abdul Fatawu and then Jannik Vestergaard, after Adam Idah’s penalty had cancelled out a stunning early opener from Jordan James. Turning a run of four successive draws into seven games unbeaten, moving up to third in the Sky Bet Championship as a result, there was much more positivity coming out of the Foxes camp at full-time, as Cifuentes portrayed in his post-match chat, having sent the 1,962 Foxes fans on the long journey home happy.
He told us: “I’m really happy because it’s not only an important three points for us, but the fact that we won against a good team as well and the way we did, because there were difficult moments in the game.
“But I think we showed fantastic character and personality. Some of the things we were asking to improve from the last performance on Tuesday were definitely there.
“It was another trip that was tricky so I really appreciate the support and hopefully they can go back home enjoying those three points. We are sad when we lose football games, we need to be happy [when we win] so hopefully they can get music on, a couple of beers and they can enjoy those points.”
Netting a second goal in as many games, having also opened the scoring against Wrexham in midweek, it’s certainly been an impressive start to life at Leicester for Wales international James, who joined on loan from Rennes on Deadline Day.

“He’s doing very well,” Cifuentes said, praising his new No.6. “It’s a really good goal in a period of the game where I think we start really well in the first 20 minutes, we were really strong. He will give us those things.
“He has the quality to get into the box and score goals and also contribute to other areas of the game. But it’s not only him, we can highlight all of the players today. The new signings are all giving a lot to the team.”
An equally impressive strike from Fatawu saw us retake the lead against Alan Sheehan’s men and Vestergaard’s second of the season ensured the points would be heading back to Leicestershire. The efforts from all over the pitch did not go unnoticed by City’s Manager, either.
“I’m so happy with him (Fatawu) after a tough period last season with the injury,” the 43-year-old reflected. “We had to take care of him in the beginning when I arrived, but he’s doing so well. He’s very committed and he’s a fantastic player for us.
“We always say we want him to shine as he is shining. And today we had JJ (James) and Bobby [De Cordova-Reid] in the pockets, Winksy (Harry Winks) and Ricardo [Pereira] coming in and keeping the ball centrally, attracting the pressure and then that allowed our wingers to go one vs. one.
“I think Jez (Jeremy Monga) had a really strong game as well so it’s about using the qualities that we’ve got in the squad and everyone can contribute. That’s an important one for us as well, that we don’t just rely on out attacking players to score goals, but as a team we need to perform well and that’s proof.
“Even the bench’s impact in the last few minutes was fantastic. All the players that came on with Caleb [Okoli], Silko [Thomas] and Bouba (Boubakary Soumaré) doing so well, I’m so happy for them because it shows we have that strength.
“We need to remember that the Championship is such a long division with a lot of games but one of our strengths is that everybody stays on and connected and everybody can contribute.”
