Kirsten Otchere, Will Alves and Nathan Opoku all found themselves on the scoresheet for the Foxes in Staffordshire, another beneficial workout following victories against Northampton Town and Bristol Rovers.
Russell Martin had another chance to see his side in action at the end of week three of our pre-season schedule and there were further signs of the Manager’s ideas coming to fruition against a side we will face in the league schedule next month.
Attention now turns to our trip to Spain, where preparation work will continue ahead of the upcoming Sky Bet League One campaign, facing Cádiz CF on Wednesday (6pm kick-off), before meeting Málaga three days later (7pm kick-off).
Promising early signs
Olabade Aluko
While there was no place for new signings Conor Chaplin and Alex McCarthy in the squad, it was a more experienced line-up to start against the Brewers, complemented by returning loanees Sammy Braybrooke and Will Alves, alongside Academy prospect Otchere in attack, fresh from scoring the opener in Bristol four days earlier. And he would add to his tally in Burton.
There was certainly plenty of attacking intent from the off, with Stephy Mavididi’s central free-kick, hit with some venom, forcing Addai into a diving save to his left, pushing the ball past the post.
The winger was thwarted by Addai once more later in the half, making another stop from a close range half-volley. Defensive solidity was also on show throughout, but on the rare occasion when the back line found itself breached, Jakub Stolarczyk was there, keeping out Toby Sibbick’s first-time effort.
The visitors would not be denied just prior to the break. Driving forward into the box, Olabade Aluko weaved his way into a shooting position. Taking aim, it was parried into the path of Otchere, who was in the right place at the right time to tap home and make it two from two in pre-season for the 19-year-old.
Getting in a rhythm
Will Alves
The hosts made 11 half-time changes, while Leicester opted for just four and continued to control proceedings, finding an attacking flow which led to several opportunities.
Alves’ trickery created space for a cross to the back post where Mavididi was waiting, diverting a header on target but into the arms of Addai. A fourth strike from the 27-year-old was kept out, not long before Thomas slid a perfectly waited ball through to Braybrooke, who couldn’t apply the finish when one-on-one with the ‘keeper.
Then, Alves, moments on from having a shot blocked, was left alone on the edge of the box and duly planted the ball into the corner from Braybrooke’s pass, who had the vision to pick out the 21-year-old after exchanging a quick one-two with half-time substitute Hamza Choudhury.
Finishing with a flurry
Nathan Opoku & Riley Carr
A fresh, more youthful Foxes side was on show for the final 25 minutes, with seven changes made in the final half an hour.
Riley Carr, one of those to come on, made a real impression, seeing a left footed effort saved with almost his first touch prior to Choudhury’s header being flicked over the bar from the resulting corner.
Carr played a big hand in the third goal, too, crossing for Opoku to find the net inside the six-yard box and ensure City wrapped up another pre-season victory.
