Manager Russell Martin provided his thoughts post-match, focusing on the level of performance

The Foxes produced an encouraging display in Staffordshire on Saturday as goals from Kirsten Otchere, Will Alves and Nathan Opoku secured a third successive victory of our summer schedule.

Focusing on the manner of the victory at Pirelli Stadium, Martin outlined how pleased he was with the work both on and off the ball, as the team continues to take shape during this pre-season period, four days on from the win over Bristol Rovers.

“Result aside, I was really impressed with the performance,” City’s Manager revealed post-match. “I was really impressed with the learning we’ve taken from Tuesday night, the work that the guys have put in on the training pitch which they’ve then transferred to the pitch on a matchday.

“It was a good team we were playing against, who were really well organised. A different challenge again from Tuesday with the way they set up. The lads did brilliantly, they worked things out and we created some brilliant chances in the game.

“Their intention is really good and more than all of that, they are running, hunting the ball, covering for each other and fighting for each other. I was really happy with that.”

Martin is starting to see his ideas come to fruition on matchdays as the players take messages on board, with another strong Blue Army following also able to enjoy the promising early signs.

The 40-year-old continued: “We thought that from day one but you need evidence in games and we’re getting more and more evidence in each game that they are trying to carry out what we’ve been working on.

“Hopefully the players are feeling that. They need evidence and hopefully the supporters can see what will come and how we want the team to look. We just have to keep building and stepping it up.

“We have a level and a foundation of performance now. The lads understand the game model a little bit now and need to keep developing that. On top of that and outside of all that, they are working really hard and we have to maintain that.

“They’ve been really good and I’ve felt it from everyone inside the building and outside the building. Everyone just wants this Club and this team to do well. I said on day one, it’s our job to bring them a team they feel proud of and that gives everything for them.

“I think they’re starting to think this group of players is really willing to do that and are desperate to do that. That’s what we are going to need.”
