Our late Chairman, Khun Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, was among those who passed away in the helicopter accident at King Power Stadium, alongside staff members Kaveporn Punpare and Nusara Suknamai, and pilots Eric Swaffer and Izabela Lechowicz.
Their passing remains a deeply significant moment in our 142-year history, with the anniversary providing an opportunity for everyone connected with Leicester City to reflect and remember Khun Vichai, Kaveporn, Nusara, Eric and Izabela.
Khun Vichai's influence on the Club was profound. His leadership and unwavering faith in our club helped transform our fortunes, culminating in the extraordinary Premier League title triumph of 2016 - an achievement which captured imaginations around the world and established a lasting place in football history.
Yet his contribution cannot be measured by sporting success alone. His support for local causes, often provided privately, made a genuine difference to countless people throughout Leicestershire. It is those acts which form a considerable part of his legacy today through The Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Foundation and the work it continues to do for our communities.
On Tuesday morning, representatives of Leicester City gathered at King Power Stadium for a private service of remembrance in The Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Memorial Garden. Men’s Manager Russell Martin was joined by members of his backroom team, Jakub Stolarczyk and Ben Nelson, while LCFC Women were represented by Manager Rick Passmoor alongside players Sam Tierney and Emma Jansson.
An annual occasion which reflects Khun Vichai's Buddhist beliefs, monks joined those in attendance to offer prayers and blessings in his memory. Their traditional chanting accompanied a period of contemplation, as floral tributes and personal messages were placed in the garden dedicated to all those we lost eight years ago.
Supporters are welcome to join the Club in marking 27 October, 2018 by leaving their own tributes at King Power Stadium ahead of this evening’s fixture against Wigan Athletic (7:45pm GMT kick-off).
The Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Memorial Garden is open to visitors from the early evening tonight, while the statue honouring Khun Vichai, situated at the north-west corner of the stadium, can be visited at any time.
