LCFC Women fell to a 1-0 defeat in the Barclays Women’s Super League on Sunday
Tottenham Hotspur claimed all three points courtesy of a fourth-minute goal
Amandine Miquel reflected on the missed opportunities which cost at least a point
The Foxes went down 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur at Gaughan Group Stadium on Sunday, beaten by a fourth-minute own goal from Janina Leitzig, when Amanda Nildén’s cross managed to deflect in off the German ‘keeper. Having seven attempts on goal to Spurs’ two, only two were on target and a lack of a clinical edge cost us from taking anything from the game, despite dominating for large periods.
The Foxes haven't found the net in the last five away league fixtures.
“The content was good so we have to continue pushing forward and we will score soon,” the 40-year-old assessed. “I think we missed a few key occasions today and maybe also the last pass is either too forward or too long. “We need to be a bit more precise technically to make sure that we create more occasions and now that we’re in a bit more of a finishing state of mind, when we get that ball, we push it inside.”
The squad is stretched due to injury, with midfielder Saori Takarada playing as a centre forward in recent games, though it has provided opportunities for Academy graduate Nelly Las, handed her first WSL start in the capital, while Sammy Kaczmar made her senior debut as a substitute. Las made her first WSL start on Sunday.
Miquel added: “We try to [make] do with what we have. We have young players and are trying to make sure that they understand their new roles. Some full-backs are playing [as] wingers and we finish sometimes with a midfielder as a striker.
“We try to adapt to the situation and now make sure that they know that everyone can score a goal and continue that trust and show our qualities.
“I think we came close today to doing that so we have to continue with the reason we’re putting in this game, make sure we do it for the next games and I’m sure that we’ll eventually get the points.”
