  • Leicester City beat Birmingham City 2-0 in the Sky Bet Championship on Friday
  • Abdul Fatawu and Ricardo Pereira scored in each half to claim victory on Filbert Way
  • Oliver Skipp assessed the Foxes’ performance as we made it back-to-back wins
Abdul Fatawu and Ricardo Pereira grabbed the goals at each end of a tense encounter at King Power Stadium, which saw Leicester claim a third Sky Bet Championship success out of four and maintain a 100 per cent league record on home soil this term.
Admitting it was not the most attractive game to watch, Skipp felt the physical encounter required everyone to step up and be counted in order to back up victory at Charlton Athletic with a second successive three points.

“We’re delighted,” the midfielder told us post-match. “We knew it was going to be a tough game. They are a team on the rise and full of confidence from last year, so it was one where we had to dig in at times and managed to get the win, so we are super happy in there.
“With getting the crowd on side, it was important to start fast and we did that. It was a great finish from Abdul again, he’s making a habit of doing that, so long may that continue. There were times when we had to sit in and defend our box well and credit to the guys, we did that when we needed to.
“It was a competitive game and a good battle in there, with two midfields playing well. Both teams were trying to impose their style on the game, there were moments where we did it, moments where they did it, but we knew it was going to be a tug of war in the midfield and a battle and we were up for it.”
Going into the international break with another victory secured, the midfielder believes it sets the team up nicely with a platform to improve further once returning to action, with more time to work under Martí Cifuentes.

He continued: “It’s always nice to get this feeling because we haven’t got a game for a couple of weeks now and we don’t want to dwell on a poor performance or not getting three points so we know there’s lots to work on.
“The gaffer has only been in for the best part of a month so we’ll definitely get better as the season moves on, but we’re happy with the three points from tonight.
“You can see we’re perhaps not at our most fluid and I think with training that will come, but when you’re not playing your best it’s important to still pick up points and nine points from 12 is a good start and we need to keep building on that.
“Especially at home we want to be a team that dominates and imposes our style of football and we’ll be looking to carry that on.”

Exciting prospects Louis Page and Jeremy Monga assisted the two goals on Friday night and Skipp pointed to the talent within City’s ranks as an indication of the level of work that has gone on throughout the Academy pathway to get players reaching the First Team.
“There’s such good Academy players here,” the 24-year-old explained. “You look at him (Monga), Louis, who are 16 and 17 respectively. You see the impact of Jeremy when he came on; he’s direct, he creates a goal and you know the talent that he’s got and we’ll keep pushing him to develop that talent and let him express himself like we’ve seen him do every game so far.
“But also, players like Bade [Aluko] are pushing the group and perhaps the fans haven’t seen them as much, but credit to the Academy here, because there’s a lot of young players pushing us senior lads.
“You always look to push them and guide them because you want them to flourish. I think we’ll have to be patient with them but their talent is there for everyone to see. They’ll just keep doing what they are doing and keep pushing in training to take us to the next level.”
