It was the right way to bounce back from a disappointing result in the league, he said

An Admir Bristric hat-trick inside 34 minutes set City on the way to a convincing King Power Stadium victory against the youthful visitors, who grabbed a consolation goal after Tommy Watson’s brace had made it 5-0 to the Foxes.

Bobby De Cordova-Reid rounded off the scoring with our sixth in the second half, as Leicester put recent troubles in front of goal behind us, having endured the frustrations of being unable to find a winner against Barnsley on Saturday.

“We created really brilliant energy from the start,” Martin said on Tuesday night’s performance. “I think we played some amazing football and scored some brilliant goals. We hunted the ball, won it back a lot and got a few goals from that.

“I’m annoyed at the goal we conceded and I said to the guys it’s my job to always be so demanding of them and we took our foot off the gas just before half-time, at 5-0 up. It’s frustrating to concede a goal, because Franco [Ravizzoli] didn’t deserve that.

“On the whole, a really positive night. The intention to make it that was good. All in all, it’s really pleasing because these games can be difficult sometimes. You have to turn them into the game you want it to be and we did.

“We have to try and live there all the time. We had it at MK Dons and Barnsley when we were so dominant and should win the games but that’s the next bit for us and we have to create that. We’re this close from being a really good team. We can feel that inside the building, we all can.

“Everyone feels that it’s coming and we worked a lot after Saturday on creating a bit more and having a bit more conviction in the box. We aren’t always going to be successful, we’re going to fail sometimes. But if we do, it’ll be in our way.

“On Saturday, we failed too many times with that last little bit of edge, which comes with some young players and the journey we’ve been on, but we’re going to get there, I’m convinced of that. Tonight will do us a lot of good.”

Confidence was flowing through the team with Bristric and Watson both notching their first goals for the Club in the victory, while Franco Ravizzoli made his debut and Kamari Doyle his first start, with Caleb Okoli also back in the XI following injury.

Our Manager explained: “Some players who needed minutes – Caleb Okoli returning, Kami Doyle returning, Franco’s first game. We have such a big squad at the moment and a brilliantly talented squad, so sometimes it’s difficult to get on the bench depending on what the game requires.

“I’m really pleased for Tommy. He’s been training so well after we had a difficult time in front of goal on Saturday as a group and should have scored more. We could have scored more tonight, hit the post a few times, but Tommy and Admir are really great attacking players.

“Will Alves, again, just brings so much positivity and energy to the performance. Kami, Sammy [Braybrooke], I’m really delighted with their performance. Bobby as well was amazing from the start.

“They’ve done a really good job of putting themselves in the frame, regardless of the game and the opposition, [by showing] the right energy, mentality and detail. They’ve done themselves big favours in being ready for the next game.”

It was also a proud night for the LCFC Academy, with Will Lawrence, Tommy Neale and Lorenz Hutchinson all coming off the bench to make their senior bows, having impressed in pre-season and with the Under-21s.

“A few debuts for the Academy boys as well, Tommy, Lorenz and Will,” the 40-year-old added. “They were great. We work closely with the Under-21s in particularly and go and watch all their games when they’re at home.

“We have a good understanding of who is where and where they are at. Kingy (Andy King) has spent the last couple of years here and knows them really well, so it’s great for us.

“They deserved that tonight and it’s good that we can do that. Tommy Neale would have been in the squad a bit earlier, but he picked up a knock, which was unfortunate for him, but he came on tonight and did brilliantly.

“And we ended up with Sammy captaining the team, an Academy graduate with the armband on is a really nice moment for him and for them guys. I’m really pleased for them.”
