Leicester City have been relegated from the Premier League
Sunday's 1-0 defeat to Liverpool confirmed our fate
Ruud van Nistelrooy provided his reaction after the game
He was proud of the performance despite the pain of relegation
Trent Alexander-Arnold scored the only goal of the game at King Power Stadium with 14 minutes remaining to consign Leicester City to another Premier League defeat. With our fate now sealed, as the Club prepares to return to the Sky Bet Championship, the Dutchman was nevertheless proud of his side’s display against the runaway leaders.
“It's hard, it’s a blow, but it’s not something from today,” he said.
“It’s something we felt coming. We never gave into it, we kept fighting always. When there’s hope, we keep fighting, but now it’s done and that hurts.
“As with last week’s performance against Brighton (a 2-2 away draw), this week against Liverpool, we shifted the mindset and the targets and the objectives, how we want to finish the season.
“It’s not only the objective of staying in [the league] because that was going to be very difficult, so there’s other objectives both for individuals and the team to finish the season in the best way possible, to be at the best possible [level] for next season – that’s what we’ll try to do.
“Those are the two performances after we shifted the mindset into shaping the future. We’ve been preparing ourselves for next season.
“We performed to the maximum of our capabilities (vs. Liverpool). We had some excellent individual performances. I can’t name them all. I think we were unfortunate that they disallowed our goal.
“We wanted to break the cycle of home games without scoring. I’ve seen them given. The Patson Daka foul was light. We had a shot on the post, like many of our home games before, and the lads deserved more from that performance.”
