The Leicester City Manager met Foxes Pride in Seagrave
Club to celebrate Football v Homophobia campaign this weekend
Foxes Pride are one of the biggest LGBTQ+ supporter groups in the country
The City Manager met Graeme Smith, Becki Buckland-Hodson, Mags Keatman and Rishi Madlani for a discussion about the group’s work in promoting inclusivity in football and wider society ahead of our dedicated Football v Homophobia fixture with Arsenal this weekend. The conversation covered a range of topics, including the importance of visibility, allyship and the role football clubs can play in driving positive change, while learning more about campaigns such as Football v Homophobia and how Leicester City can continue to support a diverse and accepting footballing community.
Van Nistelrooy said: “Football is for everyone, and it’s crucial that we continue to make the game as inclusive as possible.
“I wanted to meet Foxes Pride to learn more about the great work they are doing alongside the Club to ensure Leicester City remains a welcoming place for all supporters.
“The group’s passion and dedication is truly inspiring, and as a Club we are proud to stand with them in supporting the Football v Homophobia campaign.”
The Football v Homophobia initiative was originally conceived and launched in 2010 by the Justin Campaign, which was founded in 2008 to demonstrate that 10 years after Justin Fashanu's tragic suicide, homophobia was still hugely prevalent in both grassroots and professional football.
Foxes Pride member, Rishi Madlani, added: “We really appreciated the opportunity to speak to Ruud to share our work with him about how we’re trying to make football more inclusive to the LGBTQ+ community.
“His support and the Club’s commitment to inclusivity mean a lot to us, and we hope this sends a strong message that everyone should feel safe and accepted in football.
“Having the Club’s backing for campaigns like Football v Homophobia makes a real difference, and it was great to see Ruud genuinely engaged in the conversation.
“It’s these moments that really show us the Club is committed to making a positive impact, and we’re proud to work with them to promote equality in football."
