LCFC Women welcome Tottenham Hotspur this weekend to King Power Stadium
The Barclays Women’s Super League action kicks off at 2pm
We are looking for a fourth consecutive top flight win on home soil
A full and exclusive interview with Sam Tierney will be available in this weekend’s edition of CITY
Last time out at King Power Stadium, Tierney marked her 125th Club appearance with a third home win on the bounce, beating Brighton & Hove Albion 3-2. Despite a nervy ending, which required Janina Leitzig pulling off a superb save in the dying stages, Leicester held on for the win and midfielder Tierney spoke about the importance of three points.
“We know we need to try and pick points up from wherever we can, so I think to get it in a game like this weekend was important for us,” Tierney stated in an exclusive interview with CITY.
“I think we were excellent in the first half and especially transitionally, I think we played really well. It was a bit of a nervy second half, but the three points was the main thing.
“I think to get goals in different areas, from different players, is showing the strength that we’ve got across the team.
“That’s important as well, not just relying on one person, so it’s nice to be scoring and celebrating those goals.”
As the game went on, and edged closer to its conclusion, the noise around Filbert Way was taken to another level last weekend.
Having been part of the team for so long now, Tierney commended the Foxes fans for playing their part in the Seagulls victory.
She added: “Most players speak about it but fans do genuinely help and obviously they come out every week in terms of home and away.
“I said the second half was nervy but you can still hear them, they’re pushing you on and they give you that extra bit of energy.”
Discussing their next opponents, Tottenham, who are struggling with form at the moment as they haven’t collected a point in five games, Tierney understands this doesn’t confirm a positive result without hard work on the pitch.
“There’s no easy game in this league and Tottenham, even though they might not be in the best run of form, they’ve definitely got some very strong and capable players,” our No.3 continued.
“Amandine [Miquel] spoke about you still have to remember the defensive side so it’s having a balance between that and attacking, which we’re always developing on.”
