  • Leicester City were held to a 1-1 draw by Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Monday
  • Jordan Ayew's 84th-minute strike equalised a Jerry Yates opener in south Yorkshire
  • Gary Rowett believes, despite not getting the wins we need at present, performances are positive
  • He says we need to start taking more chances in the battle to survive in the Sky Bet Championship
Good Friday's 2-2 draw with Preston North End at King Power Stadium was followed by a 1-1 stalemate at Sheffield Wednesday on Easter Monday – a pair of results which aren’t what we need in the battle to retain our Sky Bet Championship status for another season.
Still just one point from safety, however, and on the back of a trio of encouraging displays – factoring in the 0-0 draw at Watford a fortnight ago – little has changed in the bigger picture. With games at Portsmouth and Blackburn Rovers and three home matches still to come, we have the games to rectify our situation.
That being said, Rowett knows we need to start winning games of football, pointing to the amount of scoring opportunities being created, which need to be taken in the coming weeks.
Asked for his overriding emotions after the game, the former Foxes full-back said: “Frustration. The players, a bit like [after] Preston, see opportunities slipping when you need to go and take those opportunities.
“I understand that. That’s how I feel a little bit. Watford, Preston… what I would say is that they’re three pretty dominant performances in a row.
“At least there’s a consistent element to what we’re doing. But, of course, winning games has been so hard because you have to score goals.
“Particularly when you concede every game. That’s a problem. If you concede in every game, you have to go and score two goals, which is why we knew that mistake early on (for Sheff Weds’ second-minute opener) actually caused us a big problem.

“The feeling is one of frustration, one where the players know we’ve got to go and win those types of games, but like I said to them, it sounds a little like I’m clutching at straws, but if everyone else wins today and we will, we’re in exactly the same position.
“It’s going to come down to us, but we’re going to need to start winning games of football, especially when we create that many chances. You have that many shots on goal, you create that many chances, you’ve got to go and score and kill teams off.”
Rowett had a word, too, for the Blue Army, with over 3,000 of them making the trip to south Yorkshire to provide their backing at Hillsborough.
“The fans have got behind us incredibly again,” he added. “I sense that when you go 1-0 down, I sense their frustration. I was exactly as frustrated myself.
“I can sense they’re disappointed to not win the game. But they’ve stayed behind us. I know it’s not enough. It’s not enough to just stay behind us when a team’s trying to win the game – of course we’re trying to win the game, we’re fighting for our lives.
“But I think we see a team performing and the crowd are getting behind it. The easy narrative is these players don’t care. I think they do care.
“I think they’re desperate to win games. We’re just lacking the quality in those key areas. [Jordan Ayew] has had a difficult time over a period, but he showed real composure and showed a good mentality and a little bit of ability to go and get us back into the game.
“He had another one where Pato’s (Patson Daka) narrowly offside, but I thought he looked bright when he came on.

“If I’m coming off today and we only had two shots on goal, or we’ve had 30 per cent possession, of course you have to then change things.
“But we were pretty dominant. I think we’ve had 52 shots in the last two games. Show me a team that does that and doesn’t win both of those games. That’s the frustration. But we’ve got to keep going.
“The one in the first half, I think Pato should score. [Owls goalkeeper Pierce Charles is in the] centre of the goal and then Skippy (Oliver Skipp) has one where he takes a lovely little touch inside, I thought he was going to shoot, and as he hits it, I’m not quite sure how the ‘keeper saved it.
“There was quite a few other ones and, of course, when he didn’t save it, the woodwork came to his rescue.
“Jordan’s had a great header that hits in the inside of the post. Again, a little bit of fortune. We hit the bar and, like I said, we had lots of big chances in the second half as well.
“We have to take them. I’ve been saying, we can do so much to get us into those positions. Once again today, I don’t think it’s a game that tactically we’ve necessarily got wrong, I think it’s a game where individual moments of composure and quality… we’ve got to go and score three or four goals in a game like that.”
