If anyone can feel confident heading into a penalty shootout, it's Keane, who not only saved one spot-kick during the first half, but got down to save two in the shootout, as Leicester scored four of five on the way to securing an extra point.

Discussing the game, the young Irish 'keeper was proud of the girls for the resilience and fight shown to get back into the game, equalising through Paulina Nyström after going behind to Libbi McInnes' goal.

Celebrating a shootout win at Silverlake Stadium.

"It was a mental game, games like that are the best ones to be a part of," Keane stated. "There's mistakes in the game and we learn from them but we got the win in the end, which is the main thing.

"We can reflect on last season, in the play-off game, which was a rotten feeling, but to get a win in a penalty shootout and be able to install the confidence in all of us so that we can step up and take a penalty is amazing.

"Thank god for the girls for getting that equaliser. It was a mistake in the backline for their goal, and I'll put that on myself as well there. It was an interesting call but look that happens in the game and you just have to roll with it.

"I'm delighted that Pao [Nyström] could come on and show her class. The girls were so resilient, so I'm really proud of us all."

Having clocked up plenty of miles recently, with trips to Newcastle, Sunderland, Watford and now Southampton within the last five games, the shot-stopper was pleased to be able to contribute to the success through her spot-kick saves and then celebrate a big win with the Blue Army who made themselves heard on the south coast.

"You've just got to be as dominant as possible, try to put them off," Keane explained after being asked about her trick in penalty shootouts. "I had a piece of paper in my sock so that worked.

"I always say our fans are such a big part of Leicester. It's like a family, every single one of them, and they help us to win games and keep going in tough times so we can't be more thankful for them."
