Ahead of the latest instalment of clashes with the Canaries, with the help of Dave Smith, Of Fossils & Foxes co-author, we take a look at past encounters and landmarks which stick out in the history books…

Celebrating a big win over Norwich in 2024.
We meet again in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday, renewing a head-to-head which dates back to 1912. Leicester completed a league double 23/24, winning 2-0 at Carrow Road thanks to a Kelechi Iheanacho penalty and a Kasey McAteer strike, before a crucial 3-1 victory in the promotion race on Filbert Way in April earned by Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Stephy Mavididi and Jamie Vardy.
The most recent FA Cup fixture between the clubs came in February 2012 as Sean St Ledger and David Nugent scored in a 2-1 fifth-round win in East Anglia, while the last League Cup tie dates back to 1988. Mike Newell and Paul Reid were on the scoresheet to secure a 2-0 success at Filbert Street.
Landmark Moments & Last Times

One of the defining days in the fixture arrived in 1981 when Jim Melrose hit a final-day hat-trick at Carrow Road in the old First Division to relegate Norwich, with both sides going down together that year. To this day, it remains Leicester’s most recent hat-trick against the Canaries, while Norwich’s last came in 1977 from Viv Busby. Those remain the only two hat-tricks ever scored in the history of the match-up.
Kelechi Iheanacho netted Leicester’s last penalty in this fixture in the 2023 Carrow Road win, with Teemu Pukki converting Norwich’s most recent from the spot in the Premier League meeting of 2021. Gareth McAuley is the only Leicester player to have conceded two own goals, remarkably doing so in both league fixtures against Norwich in 06/07. The most recent Leicester red card vs. Norwich, on the other hand, was Matty Fryatt in 2010, while Norwich’s most recent was Darel Russell in 2008.
Played For Both & Top Scorers

This fixture has an unusually large number of shared connections. James Maddison is the most high-profile recent transfer from Norwich to Leicester, joining in 2018. Other players to represent both clubs across eras and divisions include Dion Dublin, Harry Kane, Ben Alnwick, Ryan Bennett, Tony Cottee, Callum Doyle, Ritchie De Laet, Ade Akinbiyi and Steve Walsh among many others. Despite the scale of crossover, no player has ever scored for both clubs in this fixture.
Alan Smith and Jamie Vardy are Leicester’s leading scorers against Norwich with five goals apiece, while Wes Hoolahan leads for the Canaries with four goals, scored over three meetings.
