We drew with the Red Dragons back in September, with Jordan James on the scoresheet for the Foxes, while this trip to north east Wales will be our first trip since 1982.
With the help of Dave Smith, who co-authored Of Fossils & Foxes, we've taken a look at some of the historical details from previews clashes with Wrexham...
Previous encounters
The very first meeting between the clubs came in 1960, when we ran out 2-1 winners in an FA Cup Third Round tie at STōK Cae Ras. Albert Cheesebrough and Ken Leek found the net, while Don Weston replied for the hosts. That fixture remains the highest attendance ever recorded for a Wrexham-Leicester match.
The most recent encounter came in September, when the sides played out a 1-1 draw at King Power Stadium, with Jordan James on target for the Foxes and Nathan Broadhead scoring for the visitors. Across the nine meetings played to date in all competitions, just 12 goals have been scored in total, with no player ever netting more than once in the fixture.
Landmark moments
There have been no hat-tricks, penalties, own goals or red cards in any City vs. Wrexham fixture. Only two debutants have ever featured: Kevin Reed for Leicester in 1978, whose sole appearance for the Club saw him strike the crossbar with a looping effort, and Simon Hunt for Wrexham in 1981, who went on to make more than 100 appearances for the Red Dragons.
In terms of transfers, the strongest links are very recent. Danny Ward and Conor Coady both moved to Wrexham in the summer of 2025. Looking further back, the Foxes signed striker Kevin Russell from Wrexham in 1989 for a reported £175,000. The Welsh club have also been managed by four former Leicester City figures over the years: Bobby Roberts (pictured, above), Brian Carey, Brian Little and Gary Mills.
Played for both & top scorers
Beyond Ward and Coady, there is a decent list of players to have represented both clubs, including Robert Alleyne, Lewis Brunt, Ritchie De Laet, Callum Doyle, Archie Gardner, Mike Hooper, Matty James, Jason Jarrett, David Lowe, Frank Sinclair (pictured, above), Kevin Russell and Gavin Ward.
When it comes to goals, the fixture remains finely balanced. For Leicester, single strikes against Wrexham have been scored by Albert Cheesebrough, Ken Leek, Trevor Christie, Derek Strickland, Martin Henderson, Eddie Kelly, Stewart Hamill and Jordan James. For the Red Dragons, Don Weston, Gareth Davis, Micky Thomas and Nathan Broadhead are all also one-goal scorers in the head-to-head.
