Heading into the STōK Cae Ras encounter on the back of an M69 Derby reverse at Coventry City, there will be a desire to put things right in Wales.
Although beaten by Norwich City at the weekend, the Red Dragons were on a four-game winning run beforehand, elevating them up to 10th in the Sky Bet Championship.
Also overcoming Premier League side Nottingham Forest in the Emirates FA Cup last week, Phil Parkinson’s men are looking upwards in the table in 2026.
‘An even bigger desire’

Still hurting from Saturday’s loss at Coventry, Cifuentes believes Wrexham will pose a different style of challenge, but one that will nevertheless test his Foxes squad.
“We know that Wrexham is going to be a very different game,” he explained. “They’re a team that has a very clear identity.
“They usually play with two at the top. They tend to play quite direct and they are good picking the seconds, and putting pressure on with a lot of crossing.
“They are a team that is doing well, they are in a good moment, so it’s important that we ourselves understand what we missed today (on Saturday) to take the three points.
“We go there again with an even bigger desire. After a defeat, you always want to see a strong reaction. It’s important to understand that the Championship is like this.
“You have to recover quick, swallow the disappointment, and be ready to face another type of challenge.”
‘We give them the framework’

Although naturally frustrated with how the game panned out at Coventry, City’s first-half performance included many positives, not least the execution of pre-match ideas which the coaching staff passed onto the players.
Jordan James’ opener – and other chances which went awry – were the result of homework done on our last meeting with the Sky Blues. Cifuentes was eager to praise his players for this aspect, and hopes for more of the same in Wrexham.
He added: “One of the most important things, in my opinion, skills that a coach has to have is to learn about the players and understand the skills of the players.
“It’s all credit to them. We just give them the framework and then some ideas.
“We knew already in the game at home against Coventry that we created chances, attacking this gap, the space in between the full-back and the centre-half, and today the idea was to repeat.
“The main three chances we created in the first half were through attacking this area.
Credit to them – Ricky (Ricardo Pereira), JJ (Jordan James), Abdul [Fatawu], Jordan Ayew – everyone contributed to attack those areas. Even the guys on the opposite side of the pitch because you need players to play full width to stretch those areas. It’s always credit to the guys.”
